I am definitely going to retire early at 55. I make the cut off. I can't afford to go at 55. I can't afford NOT to go at 55. I'm 53 in December. Do the maths and send me the job offers! I have to be retired for one day I think, then I'll need to start clearing the mortgage.

Anon post: I’m a new headteacher and I’m curious — how often do other heads take time to work from home, offsite, or somewhere quiet for uninterrupted focus? I’d like to spend one morning a week working from home on SIP and strategic planning, but I can’t shake the guilt of being away from school.

This will be the first summer where I will have been abroad for almost all of the summer break. Just two more destinations left before home. After a year waiting for Ofsted (who came in June) and a family bereavement at the end of term, a much needed #recharge @pandocruises

A huge shout out to @MissCGough one month in and I’ve dropped a dress size (only bought two new ones though). I can highly recommend her services. She works to support you around your lifestyle.

@dsheadexec This could have been written by me. Fortunately, when we were inspected in January, the inspectors really understood the juggle but so easily might not have done. I love it when I go to training and people say “make sure you delegate to your SLT” umm…I am the SLT!

It's a struggle to find effective subject leadership in larger schools -so this is beyond my understanding. The smaller the school, the fewer people to delegate to. Wow.

@DeputyPeake Heading on a 10 day Croatian adventure by myself…was TERRIFIED about going away on my own last summer but went to Barcelona for a few days, loved it and now can’t wait to go away on my own again! Starting to enjoy single and 40 life!

@dsheadexec The years of “Oh you DON’T have kids? You don’t understand then.” from parents and some staff are what make non-parent teachers defensive at the comparison drawn between them and their parent counterparts…maybe before reading full explanations further down twitter threads!

If you're a father or parent, you'll know it doesn't make you a better teacher -but it makes you a more understanding one. It helps you see a wider picture. It puts you in the shoes of the family. Don't tell your children's teachers you're in the job -that'll tell you everything.
