Great CPD isn't about "raising awareness." It's about real change in real classrooms. If your CPD doesn't change people's practice, it's a waste of time.

The vertical whiteboards and "productive buzz" of Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC) are sweeping through schools, but engagement is not achievement. Experts like @rastokke , @MrZachG , and @greg_ashman are sounding the alarm that we are trading mathematical mastery for a classroom aesthetic. ​The shift toward "de-fronting" the classroom often ignores Cognitive Load Theory, leaving novice learners to flounder in unproductive struggle while major publishers drive implementation ahead of the scientific evidence. Success breeds engagement, not the other way around. If we want students to love math, we must ensure they are actually competent at it. You don't help children with SEND by teaching them worse. It isn't complicated. You need high behavioural expectations, strong, predictable routines, and clear explicit instruction. Those are the ingredients.

Try being a teacher being repeatedly verbally or physically abused in a classroom and there is no option for the child to be placed in a room in the school for internal exclusion. This will likely mean they will roam the corridors or have to sit in the back of another classroom to disrupt that or they get a free pass and are able to do what they want or worst of all, they are put back into circulation after a restorative conversation. Proponents of getting rid of so called ‘isolation rooms’ or areas, what is your alternative?

@adamboxer1 Not allowed to show a blank whiteboard, built into routines from the start of the school year. If they don't know the answer, they can ask me a question or show me their proposed first step. Usually don't have any issues but if I did, I would remind of the routines for round 2

@TattooedSkeptic @GeometryPuzzles It means factorial, it's a short hand way of writing (3x2x1 = 6). 5! = 5x4x3x2x1
