🇧🇷🗣️ Marcelo: “Now that I’m a father and I watch my son play football, I’ve discovered a whole new world. I shout, yes — but to encourage him. What I can’t understand are the parents who insult, who put pressure on kids, who treat 10- or 12-year-olds like professionals.
I hear outrageous things that make me feel embarrassed. People who think that because their son scores goals he’s already Cristiano or Messi. That hurts the children, it takes away their joy. Until the age of 15 they should simply enjoy it — make mistakes, laugh, and play without fear.
I hardly talk about football with my son. I just tell him very basic things: control it like this, try this, try that. But the most important thing is that he is polite, responsible and grounded. That matters more than any goal.
And even though sometimes I feel like correcting other parents, I can’t. Because of who I am, speaking up could be misinterpreted. So I sit there, watch the game, and think: I wish everyone understood that the most important thing isn’t scoring goals — it’s that the children are happy.”
