The petition from the nurses at Chicago’s Rush University Medical Center demands better pay, improved benefits, and increased staffing to better support both nurses and patients. In 2025, almost 40% of registered nurses plan to leave the profession within the next five years, citing burnout, low pay, and heavy workloads as the root causes. If successful, RUMC nurses would join another 6,500 unionized nurses in Chicago.
