Eric Burlison: War, Spending, and FISA @RepEricBurlison

Republicans and Democrats may have different policy priorities, but surely we can all agree that a government budget, hamstrung by huge interest payments, benefits no one. America's fiscal trajectory is alarming and unsustainable. That's why I've introduced the Balanced Budget Amendment.

For Democrats, requiring the federal government to balance the budget, just like families have to every month, is too big an ask. They’d rather bankrupt YOUR kids’ future than cut off funding for their partisan projects. Sickening.

MYTH: The SAVE America Act disenfranchises women who change their names FACT: The Act provides a process for anyone who changes their name to register to vote, including by signing an affidavit at the poll.

The Senate is taking up the SAVE America Act this week but that does not mean they are serious about actually getting it signed into law. @LeaderJohnThune knows he does not have the 60 votes needed to pass it and also won’t invoke the standing filibuster, so he is doing this for messaging. The Senate plans to leave debate open for as long as Senators continue to debate (probably a couple of days). They are doing this to try and get around having to invoke the standing filibuster but I won’t let them fool you. These two things are not the same! If the standing filibuster is not invoked the SAVE America Act will fail.

A reminder for my colleagues in the Senate: 81% of Americans support voter ID. 85% of Americans want ONLY U.S. citizens voting in our elections. 80% of Americans want to purge non-citizens from voter rolls. Passing the SAVE America Act should be a no-brainer. GET IT DONE.

There’s no reason the House should be voting on Senate bills, until the Senate passes the SAVE America Act. Yet, for no apparent reason, this week we’ll be voting on a Senate bill, S. 3971, under suspension. The American people do not care at all about S. 3971, compared to the SAVE America Act, and neither do I. The current fight isn’t about minor reforms to the SBA, however meritorious they may be. It’s about ensuring illegal aliens aren’t voting in our elections. That’s where our focus should be, not fiddling while Rome burns. I’m extremely disappointed that this is even coming for a vote. Needless to say, I’ll be voting “no.”

"This is a very big thing that we’re doing... having to do with all of the fraud that’s taking place in our country." @POTUS prepares to sign an Executive Order establishing a @VP-led task force to root out fraud, as outlined in his State of the Union address.

Instead of forcing Democrats into a real talking filibuster, @LeaderJohnThune is fast-tracking the SAVE America Act to the floor under the 60-vote threshold—where it'll die on arrival. Pure cover for Senate Republicans who don't want to actually fight for secure elections.
