In only two years, ChatGPT has unraveled the entire academic project. Just two months after OpenAI launched ChatGPT in January 2023, a survey of 1,000 college students found that nearly 90 percent of them had used the chatbot to help with homework assignments. In its first year of existence, ChatGPT’s total monthly visits steadily increased month-over-month until June, when schools let out for the summer. (That wasn’t an anomaly: Traffic dipped again over the summer in 2024.)

Yes, people are struggling b/c of the rise in the cost of living. But no one mentions the folks at Target angry at the price of eggs who also buy 10 differently colored Stanley cups. We’re going to have news reports about Black Friday sales w/ zero reflection on “anxiety.”

@tungohan When I was just back from maternity leave, a senior colleague asked if I’d be willing to teach a night class on a different campus. I politely declined the request. Next thing I know, I almost don’t get reappointed because I’m not “collegial.” I’m so sorry this happened to you.
