With deep anguish and urgency bring to the attention of Hon’ble Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs (@nsitharaman) ji about the shocking incident that took place on April 27th at the Malliposi branch of the Odisha Grameen Bank in Kendujhar District. A tribal citizen, Mr. Jitu Munda, was forced to exhume the skeletal remains of his sister and carry them to the bank as proof of her death in order to withdraw his rightful dues. This followed numerous unsuccessful visits to the bank where he received no assistance or clarity from officials. What is even more shocking is the bank’s attempt to justify this inhuman conduct by citing adherence to RBI guidelines. This reflects a disturbing intent by officials to hide behind procedures and abandon the very people they are meant to serve. In a democracy, rules are meant to empower citizens, not humiliate them. This horrifying incident has outraged public sentiment across #Odisha and has also drawn international media attention, including coverage by the New York Post and the BBC. Though isolated, this incident highlights the urgent need for a more humane banking administration, especially in remote tribal areas. Urge Nirmala Sitharaman ji to ensure clear accountability is fixed immediately for this shocking lapse. Also urge you to send a strong signal to all rural banks to guarantee citizen-centric service delivery with empathy and compassion. I am confident that with your compassionate intervention, such inhuman treatment of citizens will not be repeated anywhere else in the country.

This man with nose rings and this lady with winged eyeliner are repeat offenders. Few days ago they were revealing location of Indian drone production units and locations of Israeli tourists in India. Action when? @HMOIndia

Clarification from ODISHA GRAMEENA BANK

A tribal man was seen carrying his deceased sister's skeleton to the bank to withdraw money from her account, claiming to be her heir, in Odisha's Keonjhar district, on April 27. On the incident, Uma Shankar Dalai, Sub Collector, Keonjhar, said, "The tribal man was not aware of the procedural aspects. Out of frustration, he did this. Prima facie, it appears that since this man is not a class-I legal heir of his sister, the concerned bank rightly asked him for documents which he could not produce. Today, he will apply for the necessary documents. We are facilitating early processing of Red Cross Assistance of Rs 20,000, the death certificate and the legal heir certificate and release of the deposited money to the legal heirs in consultation with the bank." Paid influencers and banksters please note

A whole army of influencers has been deployed to say the bank is not at fault! Well, @MoneylifeF is 17 years old, and we know how banks treat even educated people, how accounts are blocked (ours too - both personal and work) for KYC updates without EVER informing us it was due. So if you think this man was not given the run-around, you are either extraordinarily lucky (perhaps you don't have a bank account), or extremely naive, or have other 'motivation' to jump to the bank's defence!
