EXCLUSIVE: NBC, NYT, Daily Beast all confirm the same Israeli spying story Trump’s White House allegedly calls “false”
The Defense Intelligence Agency raised Israel’s counterintelligence threat level to “critical” in recent weeks, the highest designation on the Pentagon’s scale, according to NBC News and the New York Times. A White House official reportedly called the reporting “false and sourced to someone who doesn’t have any knowledge of what’s going on.”
Israel’s embassy in Washington said Israel “does not gather intelligence on American entities, let alone U.S. government officials.”
The New York Times named the targets: Steve Witkoff, Trump’s chief Iran negotiator; Elbridge Colby, the Pentagon’s top policy official; and Michael DiMino, Colby’s deputy for Middle East policy. A senior U.S. official described the collection effort against top Trump officials as “unhinged.”
Israel’s threat designation now sits higher than any other U.S. ally, and higher than some adversary states.
