@RachelMoiselle @OdohertyI64991 As a woman who posts about antisemitism and does a public-facing job, sometimes involving people with poor mental health, using my real name would make me very vulnerable. Not every anonymous or “nom de plume” account is due to cowardice, in my position it feels essential safety.

I definitely agree. At the same time, it is shocking to me how so many people hiding behind anonymous accounts don’t seem to grasp just how easy it is to identify the source. I am still astonished that a hotelier and politician both separately engaged in sustained harassment of me thinking that this would never get traced back to them.

THE CHRISTIAN SAINT WHO SAVED 5,000 JEWS FROM THE HOLOCAUST This French pastor and his wife saved 5,000 Jewish children during the time of the Holocaust. André and Magda Trocmé lived in the town of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon in Vichy's France. Even before Nazi tanks rolled into France, Trocmé spoke out in his sermons against the horrific discrimination news were experiencing in Germany. Once the Nazis took control of France, Trocmé urged his Christian congregation to hide Jewish refugees from the Holocaust. Together with his wife Magda and his assistant, Pastor Edouard Theis, Trocmé urged the residents of his Le Chambon-sur-Lignon and surrounding towns to "become a city of refuge" to "the people of the Bible". Not one person and any of those villages collaborated with the Nazis or informed on the rest. When the SS came time and again to raid the area, all the Jewish children who found way to the villages looked like they were members of the families that took them in. They were the same clothes, they attended the same schools, and no one was hiding. The Nazis new something was off but they cannot put their fingers on it. When the Nazis asked Trocmé if a specific individual was Jewish, he said: "I do not know what a Jew is, I only know human beings". Trocmé survived until the end of the war, and so did thousands of lives that he saved. He did not do it on his own, his wife Magda and thousands of residents of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon made it all happen. He was a righteous among the nations. We will never forget.

For those of you for whom the holiday season is a mixed with melancholy as much as merriment, be gentle with yourself. You do not have to be jolly or festive. You just have to be. Be present to your own feelings, allow for the sadness as much as the joy. Sending you much love.

Condolences: WWII British Jewish codebreaker Ruth Bourne has passed away this Chanukah at the age of 99. In 1944, at just 18, she joined the Women’s Royal Naval Service and worked in secret to help defeat the Nazis. 🧵

Famous French mime Marcel Marceau was nothing short of a hero. During the Holocaust, he used his acting skills to save Jewish children by smuggling them over the Swiss border and would keep them quiet by miming. His actions saved over 70 children. We remember his bravery.

@Knowledgepoint Great photo. The buildings shown, which I believe were staff accommodation, were not demolished and are still there. The buildings behind were demolished and I think housing built there; called Mothers’ Square.

@Knowledgepoint My mum was born there in 1933. I wrote a piece about its history which is online if you Google “from fever to consumption”. It was part of a big project on the history of healthcare in Hackney.

@Baddiel People were killed who were descended from converts & hadn’t even known they had Jewish heritage. So frustrating when people fall at the first hurdle of understanding what AS is. It implies AS is the same as religious intolerances whereas it has a unique history & modus operandi.

Once again, this category error. Antisemitism is not prompted by whatever faith Jews practice. Nazis didn't ask whether or not the people they were rounding up kept Kosher.
Home Office@ukhomeoffice

No one should have to live a life in fear because of the faith they practice. That is not the Britain we stand for. In addition to existing support, up to £10 million in new funding will protect synagogues, Jewish faith schools and community centres across the UK.

TW: I am haunted by the footage I saw last night of a Hamas terrorist beheading an IDF soldier on October 7. He butchered his victim like an expert, as if he’d done it many times before. He knew when to saw, when to hack. He didn’t flinch and no one around him did either. These are not normal events of war. This was savagery and medieval barbarism. This is Hamas.

I struggle to think of anyone who's done more than Heidi to expose and fight antisemitism in this country, especially since October 7th, 2023. If she can see who and what Tommy Robinson really is, there's no excuse for anyone else. His agenda is to use Jews, not stand with them.
Heidi Bachram@HeidiBachram

Jews were just murdered in an attack on a synagogue and Tommy Robinson is raving about the Board of Deputies and “elitist Jews” who are to blame for open borders. My husband works for the Board and fights for the community every moment at great risk. This man is not our friend.

If you can't include the word "antisemitism" in your tweet about the murder of Jews in a synagogue on Yom Kippur, don't bother to tweet. Not interested, today, in any pleading guilty to a lesser offence. Antisemitic murder, caused by antisemitic discourse.

Even during the war, we never forget the tragedy of Babyn Yar, the tragedy of the Holocaust. This tragedy was so immense because the world was too slow and silently watched as the fascists carried out their aggression. The tragedy of Babyn Yar is an example of why today the world cannot stand aside, silently observing Russia’s aggression. Today, on the 84th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy, I honored the memory of those who perished in the mass Nazi executions. At Babyn Yar, the Nazis killed about one hundred thousand people during the occupation. They destroyed almost the entire Jewish community of Kyiv, as well as representatives of other nationalities. Eternal memory to all the victims.

I just watched a distressed Jewish woman try to get past a screaming horde as they chant in support of the Houthi terrorists. A loud drum beats and masked men are shouting at Jewish women in London in 2024. And nothing is done to stop it. I am disgusted and ashamed. @metpoliceuk

Melbourne people: The owner of Brunswick East Wine has been targeted repeatedly for his Jewish heritage. He is ready to give up. Let’s all support him- all Aussies- and get down to his shop and show him some love and buy some wine!! Jews will not be run out of town by antisemites.
