Y’all, let’s be serious with all the doomsday talk. Our nation has gone through some pretty horrific periods in the past. Are things bad? Yes. Is democracy teetering on the edge of collapse? Also yes. But are we “rounding up innocent people based on identity and putting them in concentration/internment camps” bad? Yeah. Are pedophiles and white supremacists occupying the highest offices of government? Sure. Has the media been consolidated and overtaken by oligarchs hell-bent on normalizing fascism? Pretty much. Are people’s voting rights in jeopardy? Big time. Has the “opposition party” been neutered by its own fascist inclinations and inability to listen to the people or deliver meaningful change? Definitely. Have experts and scholars been ousted and replaced with quacks, frauds and subject area-illiterate sycophants? At every single agency, yes. Are immigrants being scapegoated for domestic failures? Every day. Are people facing dire economic straits? Only the bottom 50%. Is the government devolving into a theocracy in flagrant violation of this nation’s founding philosophies and the Constitution? Yep. Are protesters and activists being targeted for their speech? Not only that, but they’ve been doxxed, blacklisted, violently attacked, arrested, fired, expelled, and some have even been deported. Have government agencies and law enforcement been weaponized against the people? Well, they’re executing people in the streets and getting away with it… But is the U.S. currently committing genocide? Not *here*, but we’re funding one in Gaza and may be helping enable atrocities in Yemen, Sudan, and Lebanon through our support of Saudi Arabia and Israel. Have we been provoked into losing another war in Asia or the Middle East? Not exactly. Iran didn’t provoke us, but yes, we’ve already lost, and committed a number of war crimes along the way. Is slavery still illegal? Technically yes, but we still have the prison system, human trafficking, and forms of indentured and invisible labor. Are we fighting a civil war? Not yet! See, we’re not at the **worst** point in history. We’re just *very close* to it.

@bp22 ahh…the ‘want to’. While I literally ask the question ‘why do you want to’, then don’t answer that, I know you have the why, none of my business, the want to’ is, - then I trust my gut on their answer, knowing I’m clean to call out less than want to’ accordingly. 80/20 success.

I've always found it easy to screen for intelligence/brilliance but very tricky/difficult to screen for agency/hustle/accountability. If you've been successful at consistently screening for both, what are your secrets?

@Gregor1313 sometimes I will take a walk to the mailbox, anything really, to address the urge, amazing for me to simply do something different / actively / intentionally do or think something different (helps to move/do something not just think it) — boom, forgot I wanted a pill/puff/pull.

Let me tell you something most people won’t admit Once you’ve hit 2 to 3 million dollars, paid off your house, and drive a car you’re proud of, you’re living just as well as Elon Musk. He may have hundreds of billions, but you both get the same 24 hours. And honestly, you probably have more free time than he does, which makes you the wealthier one. A great meal tastes exactly the same at your dinner table as it does at his. A bank balance is just a number on a screen. Life actually happens away from the screen. Chase freedom, not fortune. Financial independence, around that 2 to 3 million dollar mark, is the real finish line. Eat well. Love the people around you. Move your body. Get your sleep. Check in on your parents. That is the whole game. There is no version of greed that ever feels like enough. Say it until it sinks in. Time is the only currency that actually matters. Money is just the illusion we have been sold. The sooner you begin to understand this, the lighter you will feel.

@lady_valor_07 yes, of course. I’ve been doing that since I realized people died, which was after I learned math. The math was a bit easier then in decades, now, sometimes I know I’ve done a thing for the last time, the key is to keep doing things for the 1st time as well.

When people get in their 50s and 60s and up, do you start thinking about how many years you have left? I’m curious..

One of my weirder realizations : To aim for balance, not for growth in all things? Put simply, all these aggressive attempts to gain value should be ineffective to gradual, slow growth. The trees in nature do not grow very tall or aim for much, yet cover the entire globe in all their variety.
