Since I am often asked about my conversion from Mormonism to Catholicism, I decided I would just do a thread on it. AMA. Go.

@Dred_DelGath @EriePaWil The after all is being used as an adverbial phrase. Giving the meaning despite what we can do. After is not a preposition in this context.

@EriePaWil Mormonism is twistianity, not Christianity 2 Nephi 25:23 We know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do." Eph 2:8 By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God Big difference between these two verses theologically

They say “Latter-Day Saints don’t believe they are saved by grace” Many accuse us of believing that we are only saved by works. It’s clear that they haven’t read the Book of Mormon, but are repeating old lies. 2 Nephi 10:24 “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved.” Without the Atoning sacrifice, and the grace and gift of Christ, none of us would be saved! I invite you to read the Book of Mormon. With pure intent!

@NealMaddy1 @GarveBrahman @ThoughtfulSaint I was going to respond to this but couldn’t at the time. You may no longer be interested, though. If you don’t mind answering this, are you a Christian and are you fairly familiar with the Bible?

I really enjoyed my debate with Dr White last night. I think I was able to expose the moral problems with Calvinist theology (as held by the vast majority of Christians) and I did not feel he was able to offer a compelling response. After I reached out my hand and said “Hey Dr White thanks for doing this” He looked down at my hand and told me I was reprehensible and refused to shake my hand. I was disappointed by this. Perhaps Dr White has ill feelings toward me but I don’t have any toward him and I appreciated the opportunity to engage on the subject of Calvinism.

@MarketPalmer_ Something that should be considered is outcomes for children at daycares can vary depending on the quality of daycare. A low quality daycare can definitely lead to negative outcomes.

ME: Daycare is expensive, but worth it. THEM: Why would you pay to have someone else raise your kids? ME: They're not raising my kids, they're taking care of them while we work. THEM: One of you should quit your job so you aren't handing your kids off to strangers each day. ME: They're not strangers, they're professionals. And we'd have even less money if one of us stayed at home with the kids. THEM: It shouldn't be about money, it should be about bonding with your kids. ME: Kids need bonding with more than just their parents. Their daycare teachers and other kids at daycare are some of their best friends, and they're excited to go each day. THEM: You're letting them get indoctrinated by today's education system and propaganda. ME: They're literally learning colors, the ABCs, and how to count to 10. THEM: Some parents just don't want to be parents! ME: *stops arguing with a wall*

@NealMaddy1 @GarveBrahman @ThoughtfulSaint You would need to explain how it skews the image of God before I can reply. I’m not aware of any such thing, or criticism. I’ve heard a lot but not that.

@got_carma @GarveBrahman @ThoughtfulSaint Though I'm not among them, I have heard of some who believe Reformed Theology skews the image of God in such a way as to be heretical. How significant or insignificant this group is I can't say.

@NealMaddy1 @GarveBrahman @ThoughtfulSaint There is no “moral” problem with Calvinism. It’s doctrinal and theological. The vast majority of Calvinists don’t believe that those who don’t hold to the Reformed View as unbelievers. In other words it’s not an essential doctrine like faith in Christ for salvation.

@GarveBrahman @ThoughtfulSaint And that's fair enough. I think that's more or less what I'm getting at. Obviously, if you prefer Wesley to Calvin you're going to have some hang ups regarding reformed theology. If your Catholic or Eastern Orthodox that's a whole other can of worms.

@GarveBrahman @ThoughtfulSaint If all Christians theologically agreed with what Calvin taught about God, then all Christians would be Calvinists, yet not all are, therefore, it follows that those Christians that are not Calvinists are not Calvinists because they have some sort of disagreement with Calvin.

@NealMaddy1 @ThoughtfulSaint Maybe. If so he should fix his phrasing because that isn’t how it reads. Regardless, that is an incredibly vague point. What specifically about Calvinism is seen as problematic by the majority of Christians? How does he know what most Christians think about Calvinism? He doesn’t.

Ppl have to actually be doing spiritual things at home for this to work and other than the come follow me manual has the church actually created a detailed plan or even a suggested plan for members to have? And I bet only about 20% of the membership is actually having home centered church at home in the way it was intended. And quite frankly we still need human connection. We need to socialize and interact and fellowship more but we are doing it less. And THIS is why ppl are worried about this change. It actually has not much to do with a church lesson but more about not being able to connect with others in their ward or even having the time to do so.

To the people complaining about this: What part about “Home centered, Church supported” are you not getting?

If it were the case that the scriptures of the lds did not lead to ideas that 100% contradict the Bible then sure that's fine. The problem we have is that hundreds of millions of Christians through the eons have agreed on what is scripture. Then 1800 years after the fact, someone who lived a life that wasn't even good compared to the atheists of the day claims new revelation and scripture. Jesus at the very least would have predicted more prophets. He did not. And Hebrews 1 directly implies there are no more prophets. Then of course there are the absolutely horrid claims made in the "scriptures" such as the idea that Eve made the "right choice" in the garden when the Bible is clear that it was evil.

Another good question: "Why do you need personal revelation? Isn't the Bible enough? Doesn't that create chaos when people receive contradicting revelation?" Thoughtful, sincere people interpret Biblical teachings six ways from Sunday-- even on core, salvicific questions: the importance of works, whether baptism is a saving ordinance, what "counts" as a valid baptism, whether God saves the pagan and the children, whether the resurrection is universal, etc, etc, etc. And each group turns to The Bible for their justification. Don't mistake what I'm saying. Divine truth is objective-- no "your truth" or "my truth." But what exactly that eternal truth is is not universally self-evident from scripture alone. The Old Testament said there would be a Messiah, but left all the questions of when and who and how unanswered, with many candidates rising to claim the title. It was by direct revelation from God that Simon learned that Jesus was that Messiah (Matt 16). Peter's personal revelation didn't contradict scripture. But it certainly contradicted the majority interpretation of scripture and got him persecuted as a heretic. Don't expect to point to your own interpretation of the Bible and expect it to carry any weight with those who don't share that interpretation. Absent a revelation from God to cut through ambiguity, there is ample room for thoughtful, sincere people to reach different conclusions on the same text. Latter-day Saints believe many of those ambiguities have been answered in the form of the Book of Mormon and other latter-day scripture. We invite all to follow Peter's example and turn to God and ask God if it is true. Scripture + Reason Revelation is a powerful type of "trinity" of its own. "But what if I receive a different revelation than you?" If you say you have thoughtfully considered our truth claims, studied the Book of Mormon with the intention of acting on the answer you receive, and you say the Lord has told you directly that it's false... then what can I say against that? Nothing. You'd finally be addressing the Latter-day Saint argument on a level playing field. I'd disagree that it was actually God who told you that, but your word is as good as mine, so we're at an impasse. So I'd wish you the best with love and respect as a brother or sister in Christ, and part as friends knowing God who looks on the heart will sort it all out.
Joseph@AutumnalisVelum

@ATrueMillennial "theological arguments are about interpretation, not about what is objectively, self-evidently true." We have a serious problem there, there can only be ONE truth, if each of us decide ("received a direct witness from God") then everyone can have their own revelation: Chaos.

Whether you agree with him or not, Ben Shapiro has been remarkably consistent with his positions and has debated them countless times. He rarely changes his views, and when he does he clearly articulates his reasons. Unlike the clickwhores Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, and Piers Morgan, who have changed their views on core issues dozens of times throughout their career, without ever articulating why. Utterly useless grifters.

I didn't care because of what the Mormon cult was doing with the money. If they didn't pay tithing I still gave them the 10% membership card they earned it being in a cult.
