The White House is (truly) winning the oil jawboning battle against Tehran — still to be seen if Trump would win the physical oil market war. But to see Brent trading at sub-$100 a barrel (and WTI below $90) after 25 days of Hormuz almost full closure is almost surreal.

If Strait of Hormuz hasn't opened in a month, @Rory_Johnston thinks oil will "sail past $230" and make new highs not just in nominal terms but in inflation-adjusted terms too Apple🔊 shorturl.at/sZ2JE Spotify📽️ shorturl.at/ZurCL

20% of the world’s oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz. That means 80% does not. Given the massive flexibility of most oil producers, there is no question the 80% can crank up production if asked firmly by President Trump.

Typical of the ignorance that pollutes twitter on energy matters. For a start almost all UK North Sea gas is piped ashore and enters the national distribution system. Cheaper than imported LNG. Oil can be exported direct from the North Sea. But it still pays 78% tax to UK Treasury, employs thousands in well-paid jobs and counts as a UK export, so helping our balance of payments. But other than that oil and gas from North Sea obviously do nothing for us.
Biffy@bonafidebiffy

@afneil Why what good would the north sea do for us, its not nationalised so anything it produces is sold on the international market anyway.

@JohnSlaterITFC Bookings for dissent are stupid. Players should have better emotional intelligence. Doesn't matter that the decisions were wrong. It's Kipre's fault. #itfc

Cedric Kipre faces a two game suspension after picking up one yellow card during a game that was abandoned, and two yellow cards for being annoyed with the refs for getting decisions wrong (which they've later admitted were in fact wrong). This season has been laughable. #ITFC

The Tories’ ludicrous position on energy was exposed on #bbcqt. Harriet Baldwin argued drilling more oil and gas in the North Sea improves “energy security”. Fiona Bruce challenged her: “If North Sea gas is sold on the international market, how does drilling more make the UK more secure?” Baldwin had no answer … bc there isn’t one. The Tories sold off our oil and gas instead of managing it like Norway. Then Brexit took the UK out of the European Union Internal Energy Market and doubled down on gas priced on global markets. Now they claim drilling more gas we don’t control will make us secure. ❌ It won’t.

@aeberman12 @Rory_Johnston Why “never” allow oil exports? Shouldn’t companies have the right to choose where they export to or indeed import from based on market dynamics?

Petroleum export restrictions are probably coming, writes @Rory_Johnston We NEVER should have allowed oil exports to begin with. It was a gift to shale companies who couldn't learn how to produce within limits. Never elect someone whose credentials are "a businessman"

Rory Johnston@Rory_Johnston

If the Trump admin is suspending the Jones Act you better believe that they're pretty darn close to some kind of petroleum export restrictions. Those will make the *domestic* US pricing environment more tolerable for a few weeks—after which it will make the situation worse.

@griffitha As an oil veteran (and a Tory) I support more North Sea drilling. But let’s not kid ourselves it would make much difference to energy security as the increase in production would not be very significant. The Tories had lots of time to ensure our industry remained vibrant. #OOTT

There’s been talk of releasing strategic oil and gas reserves around the world to bring down prices. But why do we have to rely on the reserves of others? We have vast reserves at our fingertips which we could extract to lower prices for Britain every day of the year 👇

Rest in peace, crude oil and LNG supply glut of 2026. Long anticipated, much debated, welcomed by many and feared by some, it had an all too brief lifespan of January to March 2026. So brief, in fact, that many will wonder if it was all just a dream.

John Kemp@JKempEnergy

Twelve months ago, I re-launched my newsletter as a subscription service to provide high-quality, affordable and objective research focused on energy issues. I have always been convinced high-quality research and analysis are essential for effective decision-making. The past year has confirmed that in multiple ways. But too often energy is treated as a sub-field of politics, international relations, climate policy, business or general news, rather than as a fascinating and important subject in its own right. There are already several consultancies providing excellent research but their services are expensive. There are also several organisations supplying information and research at low cost or free – but the quality is variable, coverage sporadic, and some advocate for a particular agenda. I launched the newsletter in an attempt to fill the gap. Since launching the subscription service, I have published 153 newsletters, covering oil, gas, electricity, coal and renewables, across the United States, Europe, China, India, Japan, Viet Nam, Türkiye, Thailand, South Korea and Spain. Regular themes have included oil production, inventories, prices and OPEC strategy; gas storage and prices; Iberia’s blackout; data centres and electricity consumption; energy system transformations; and two wars in the Middle East. I am looking forward to extending coverage further to new countries and topics in the rest of 2026 as well as analysing what the global energy landscape looks like in the aftermath of the current war in the Middle East. If you would like to become a subscriber, you can sign up via my website at newsletter.jkempenergy.com/gUJLdm With very best wishes John

Obviously not but global oil and gas demand will rise for many years to come as per the @IEA outlook. Someone has to supply it and there is no reason why permitting delays and bureaucracy can’t be tackled. And if you start exploring with modern techniques you could find more than you expected. #OOTT

Key issue: how long will SoH traffic be disrupted? > a few days then big problems. Buyers of oil from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar will have operational stocks, but not adequate for extended big interruptions US government will not want the MidEast conflict to hit the home front. It will be amazing if they aren't wargaming an SPR release & also working with other governments via the @IEA on a coordinated stocks release. #OOTT

For home games I've been able to attend I've had no problem getting tickets with the exception of Norwich for which I bought a hospitality seat. Leicester will be my 5th game. I would have made possibly three more were it not for the dreaded rail replacement bus service from London. #itfc
