CALLER:“I make $120,000 a year and I’m broke.” DAVE:“Show me your budget.” $1,100 car payment. $850 eating out. $600 shopping. $400 subscriptions. You don’t have a money problem. You have a spending problem.

Just an opinion but: NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO FOR WORK WHETHER IT’S SERVING FOOD, FIXING CARS, OR COLLECTING TRASH, IF YOU’RE GIVING UP 40 HOURS OF YOUR WEEK TO EARN A LIVING, YOU DESERVE A WAGE THAT ACTUALLY COVERS THAT LIVING. Your time is valuable simply because you’re a human being, full stop. The fact that this is even up for debate is honestly telling. It reveals just how little regard people have for one another. Hard work is hard work, and every person putting in those hours deserves to be able to make ends meet.

WIFE: “We’ve been married a year. We share accounts, paid off debt together, and I made you the beneficiary of everything I own. Why won’t you add me to the deed?” HUSBAND: “I’ll just put it in my will.” WIFE: “Then why are your friends and family listed as beneficiaries instead of me?” DAVE RAMSEY: “This isn’t just an estate planning issue. It’s a trust issue. When you build walls instead of unity, the marriage pays the price.”

Boomer: I suggest you simply buy a house, but the numbers tell a brutal story: with a $430K median home price, a $35K salary, $86K down payment needed, saving every single dollar of income would take two and a half years. By then, prices would have climbed another $50K . The math is merciless.

CALLER: “Dave, my boomer grandpa says my generation is lazy because I rent an apartment for $1,400 a month. He bought a house for $62,000 in 1982 and reminds me every Thanksgiving. What he doesn’t mention is that he still owes $173,000 on that house, has $52,000 in credit card debt, financed a $78,000 truck at 8%, and borrowed $40,000 from my aunt last year.” DAVE RAMSEY: “Your grandpa thinks he’s teaching a finance class. What he’s really doing is presenting a case study.”

Caller: “My parents still support my 45year old brother”. Unpopular opinion: Some people aren’t “struggling to find themselves.” They’re just being funded by parents who are too scared to say no. And the siblings always pay the price.

BOOMER: “Young people waste too much money.” ME: “College costs $40,000 a year.” BOOMER: “Get scholarships.” ME: “Most graduates leave with debt.” BOOMER: “Work while studying.” Funny how every solution requires students to do more.

My Dad bought a house at 29. One income. Three kids. Stay-at-home wife. The house cost 2.5x his annual salary. Today that same house costs nearly 9x the average salary. All people say now is: “Just work harder.” The math changed.

On February 6, 2026, at a pre-Olympics press conference ahead of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics opening ceremony, U.S. freestyle skier Hunter Hess set off a massive firestorm with this line: “Just because I wear the flag, it doesn’t mean I represent everything that is going on in the U.S.” After months, this is what he made out of that statement. Olympic skier Hunter Hess of Bend explains how he turned the controversy into a fundraiser benefiting youth action sports programs.

CALLER: “My wife secretly racked up $120,000 in credit card debt through gambling. I was about to borrow another $80,000 to pay it off and finish our home renovations.” DAVE RAMSEY: “Absolutely not.” CALLER: “Then what do I do?” DAVE: “The debt isn’t the biggest problem. The gambling and deception are.” CALLER: “Can our marriage survive this?” DAVE: “Only with total transparency. And if you reconcile, she doesn’t touch the family finances for years.” CALLER: “So no new loan?” DAVE: “No. Use assets, attack the debt, and deal with the addiction. Debt can be paid off. Trust has to be rebuilt.”

Does your partner stress about saving while you just want to enjoy life? You're not incompatible, you just see money differently. Learn each other's "money meaning" and create an Intimate Spending Plan together. It changes everything. You think this is right?

Tracy and her husband earn about $250,000 a year but are running a $5,000 monthly deficit. After investors embezzled $1.6 million from their company, they lost 70–80% of their income and accumulated $270,000 in debt: $152,000 in credit cards, $88,000 in back taxes, and $30,000 owed to family. Dave Ramsey’s advice: Cut all non-essential spending, stop paying for the kids’ college, make the IRS debt the top priority, and consider selling the house since the $5,500 mortgage is consuming nearly half their take home pay. His message was clear: stop the borrowing cycle, attack the debt, and take responsibility for the situation before it leads to bankruptcy.
