Not a single tax dollar should be spent on building a private spa at Ontario Place or moving the Science Centre until the Auditor General has completed their investigation. Given the Greenbelt corruption scandal, the Ford government has not earned the benefit of the doubt.

Now is not a time to be asleep at the switch. @envirodefence has launched an initiative to stop The Big Sprawl - which is a campaign of policies directed by speculators who have had a strong hold on policy making at the Provincial level over the past five years (as demonstrated by 7,000 pages of FOI’ed Provincial gov’t material released this week). These speculators buy farmland and then pressure the gov’t on the pretense of ‘housing supply,’ to change the zoning for this land. But we know that we have more than sufficient developable land in areas with existing infrastructure including water, hydro, roads, schools, parks and transit. In fact, we need to add more density to existing neighbourhoods to create the critical mass that enables high frequency transit and amenities such as shops and services within walking distance of where people live. The Big Sprawl has involved: - upending our greenbelt - forcing municipal boundary expansions on municipalities - the building of a new ‘sprawl accelerator’ super highway: the 413 - expediting the removal of agricultural land (MZO’s) The Big Sprawl would be a remarkably terrible legacy to leave our children. It will facilitate crippling municipal taxes due to the high cost of new infrastructure, endless commutes and a flood of even more traffic congestion in our cities. This city voted to save farmland because it would save jobs in agriculture, prevent flooded basements, and prevent future taxes from skyrocketing. #HamOnt has already set aside almost 900 acres to build affordable homes within the 2022 boundary. Sprawl doesn't make sense.
