Dear 905: You voted to slash your kids’ schools, clog your ERs, pave wetlands, and hand cash to cronies. But hey - the guy hates bike lanes and talks tough. Congrats. You played yourself and the province. #FordNation #905Logic #OntariNO #onpoli #DemocracyDiesInSuburbia

This stunning @globeandmail photo essay documenting the restoration of the Don River mouth tells us something profound about who we are as a city: 1. Citizen activism matters. The citizen-led Task Force to Bring Back the Don worked tirelessly for over 30 years to keep the vision alive, hold politicians accountable, and demand the highest standards of environmental stewardship. 2. We’re capable of doing extraordinary things when we take the long view and commit to the hard work. This area was once a contaminated, degraded landscape. Decades of studies imagined the path forward, but as these images show, there was no substitute for patient, hands-on restoration. 3. This is the kind of work that calls on the best in us. Projects like this don’t happen without deep collaboration, technical excellence, and long-term commitment across many disciplines. They challenge us to rise to the occasion and to contribute our skills toward something lasting, something bigger than ourselves. Few undertakings are more worthy of our highest efforts. As PM Carney launches a next generation of infrastructure projects, I hope this serves as proof that when we aim high and stay the course, we can build cities and a country worthy of the next generation. theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

Phil Pothen 🇨🇦 he/him
Back when the government started flooding the airwaves w the slogan "more homes, faster", Ontario had 74,022 housing completions/yr. After 3 1/2 years pf their gutting our construction efficiency rules on the pretext of trying to accomplish that, they're down to 36,998/yr. 👇

What should have been a magnificent PUBLIC WATERFRONT PARK for ALL is moving fast to be a gigantic parking lot with PRIVATE pools & SPA on 95 yr lease! Billions of tax dollars into this craziness. Eventually, a casino? TO will be known as the city with the waterfront casino.

Scarborough deserved so much better. There could’ve been a rapid transit network for a fraction of the cost, paid for by the province, with more stations, and…already running. The Scarborough subway fiasco is what happens when plans are based on dishonest populist politics.

@StopSprawlYR @Graff2023 Development charges pay for sprawl. Why does a new condo building pay any development charges? It will bring in more tax revenue than current city block full of detached houses

Ontario’s wine and craft beer industries contribute more than $6 billion to our economy every year and employ thousands of workers across the province. During Ontario Wine Week and Ontario Craft Beer Week, we celebrate the entrepreneurs who make the best wine and craft beer in the world. Cheers to buying Ontario-made wine and beer!

What’s to stop this government from declaring a Special Economic Zone in the Greenbelt, Algonquin Park or cottage country? Bill 5 has no safeguards. Thanks to @cottagelife for highlighting our record-breaking petition with 20,000+ voices speaking out against Bill 5. More here: cottagelife.com/general/enviro…

Here’s the biography of Premier Doug Ford being handed out to all the reporters here in Boston (in a background document that includes the bios of the other premiers & governors.) Something tells me Ford’s staff didn’t write it. #onpoli
