@GrahamHumphrys No not at all, but U16’s can’t enter Parliament anyway so 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m gobsmacked how many adults are concerned U16’s won’t be able to access social media. Strange behaviour from some I’ve read.

If you're complaining about the social media ban, then you're an odd fucking person. There are so many reasons that it's a good idea. Of course some will always find a way around it but that's not a reason not to do it

@matthewdmarsden You are the rare example, sadly those who don’t want to parent, & sit their kids in front of a screen for hours a day, are ruining it for you 👍🏼

I have 7 kids at home. They get a dumb phone when they get to an age when we need to pick them up from their extra curricular activities. As they get older they get a regular phone, but have restrictions and they are monitored, as is their access to computers. They do not get an email till they are 13. Their school has a no social media policy that parents sign on to. They are not allowed x, insta, snap or facebook till they are 18. No government supervision required. Just good old parenting.

@ghost_wales Are you worried you can’t chat with under 16’s online via social media or are you worried they can vote? Both are very different situations. There’s lots of contradictions in our laws, this is no different.

Please can someone explain why 16-17 year olds could be banned from social media when these same teenagers are allowed to vote? Surely if they’re not mature enough for social media then they’re not mature enough to vote. It doesn’t make sense to me that’s why I’m asking.

@Not_my_fault 100% not this because opposing a means of dealing with a problem =/= being for the "problem," and it also requires ignoring outright what people are actually saying.

@mazzathth @tinscognito__ If you are keeping tabs on your child via social media rather than knowing where they are then something’s gone wrong along the way! Or it says a lot about either you as a parent or your child.

@tinscognito__ I use snap chat because I can see where my boy is and who he’s with and his pals mum do the same . 25 years I’ve been looking after my kids and making decisions for them. The government should not be making that decision. I don’t think it’ll stop there either😞

What if a child is having dinner with their parent who is single mum and who has returned home from a long shift. Whilst enjoying their dinner the parent suddenly chokes. The child panics. They grab their iPhone 16 and open TikTok for assistance. But it’s blocked. What then?

@the_hendog @tinscognito__ But isn’t it the parent’s responsibility to teach their children what to do in an emergency? My 5yr old is well aware of how to call 999 🤷🏻‍♂️ If they’re rushing to social media then the parents already failed their child in life.

@tinscognito__ I am not going defend the pile on above, but as one who teachers this age group. Their whole world of info comes from Snapchat or tictok. X, Facebook is for old people. They will reach for these apps by default. Just an observation. Pile in if you feel the need to feel better.

@tinscognito__ Actually still works & diverts to 999! So actually it was a good response. But if a child is reaching for Tik Tok instead of dialling emergency services then the mums failed as a parent. My 5yr old knows that basic task in an emergency.

@Not_my_fault If it was about protecting kids then why isnt it a blanket ban on all social media. Bluesky isnt included. Seems only those channels which criticise the Government.

Disturbing video shows two female students attempting to throw a friend off a rooftop in China and make it look like a suicide. Thankfully a teacher intervened just in time to stop it 🙏

The Dutch aren't very entertaining

The only parents complaining about this social media ban are the ones letting the ipad do the parenting. All children need to learn to be social properly. Having mates online is not a social life, social media is the leading cause of social anxiety i guarantee it.
