The situation with crude supplies right now is a bit like when you look at the stars and you actually see them not as they currently are but as they were thousands of years ago because of how much time it takes for the light to reach you.
Murtaza Hussain@MazMHussain

Good illustration of the accumulating global oil shock triggered by the closing of the Strait of Hormuz by @Max_Fisher. Every day of additional closure bakes in more energy catastrophe not even accounting for other Persian Gulf exports:

Again, I think we need to be very aware of the white women Karens aligned with Democrats, women who are acting as the paramilitary arm of the Democratic Party's Islamophobic apartheid regime by alleging that brown men are "dangerous." We've seen this before in the Jim Crow South. Women like Longwell, McMorrow, Gillibrand and others play a key role in creating racist fear and exclusion from social spaces for Muslims. You need to recognize this -- call it the Karen Strategy -- for what it is: Old-fashioned narrowminded bigotry.
It's politics@uspolitics1111

The most bizarre element of the batshit crazy Bulwark episode was when @SarahLongwell25 branded Zohran Mamdani a "malign actor" while staring @Timodc in the eyes. It's astounding how disconnected this never trump republican from reality and the needs of the democratic base

First it were only those “Muslim fanatic terrorists” who loved death more than they loved life. Then it became all Palestinians, then all Muslims at large. Then it turned out the Russians also loved death more than they loved life. Now, apparently even the Europeans do so!
Karol Markowicz@karol

After 9/11 I had European friends confused that we would spend time, money and effort digging up the bodies at Ground Zero. What's the point, they said. But it's what Americans (and, ahem, Israelis) do. We love life, we care about our dead, and we don't leave anyone behind.

@glcarlstrom @ahandjani The destruction of the foundations of the Iranian state is part of the "long battle" the U.S. could well lose.

Pape here unintentionally gets at the flaw in his view of the war. He can't conceive of a third option: instead of committing itself to "reassert control" over Hormuz, America commits itself to destroying the foundations of the Iranian state That ends badly for all of us. But it doesn't end with Iran as "a fourth center of global power". The madman theory of foreign policy never accounted for the possibility that the president might, in fact, be a madman nytimes.com/2026/04/06/opi…

@iyad_elbaghdadi @pashadelics I'm not sure how the UAE could avoid Iranian hegemony by "remaking themselves into a normal country". There are about 1 million Emiratis total sitting on a pile of oil on a strategically useful peninsula, someone will want to control them

The UAE's elites have chosen to either survive with the US imperial system or to go down with the US imperial system. The choice is stark, since their other options are: be "neutral" (read: sitting ducks), or accept Iranian hegemony, or remake themselves into a normal country.
Murtaza Hussain@MazMHussain

.@AnwarGargash says that the UAE will double down on its relationship with America as a result of the war and that it rejects any ceasefire with Iran that does not involve in effective shut down of its defense apparatus. Seems like they are very locked in on their current path of permanent dependence on Washington: thenationalnews.com/news/uae/2026/…

Lebanon was a peaceful, prosperous Christian country. Then it was invaded by hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees who waged war on Israel and waged war on Lebanon itself, causing a decades-long civil war and leaving Lebanon an absolute basket case. Now quislings such as yourself are trying to make it happen in Britain.

These people really would rather lose the White House than send fewer bombs to Israel, that’s really all there is to it.

Classic centrist thing is to spend two weeks shrieking about something and then the instant it’s clear you’re losing the issue, say “why the FUCK are we talking about this thing?”

This is a good take.

@moetkacik I wonder what he's afraid of. The Israeli desalination and power plants must be very vulnerable if he's writing stuff like this

Iran will not accept any temporary ceasefire, but rather a long-lasting agreement that includes all fronts in the Middle East and other credible guarantors. A potential 45-day ceasefire is not a solution to end the war, but time to prepare for another.

@ZaidJilani If the races were reversed and you saw a bunch of white people flooding into India, taking all the high paying IT jobs with H-1B scams, and building massive churches and Jesus statues everywhere they would call it a foreign invasion. Nobody likes demographic replacement.

Wow. Everyone should read this 1983 article by Roald Dahl. Every word of it. It's literally the same fucking shit as now, with the same kind of impunity, only now it's even much worse. He called it. He fucking called it and they just ignored him and called him an antisemite.

@MazMHussain @AnwarGargash Emirati foreign policy honestly puzzles me. they obviously have smart people over there but their foreign policy seems incredibly dumb. They're a minor power that insists on acting like a regional great power while having none of the necessary attributes except money
