On a human level, this is THAT moment. I used to travel a ton more for work than I do now. My first son was born in 2006 - I took one day off work, & worked the next TWELVE. The Super Bowl was in Detroit & then was on a bus to Ottawa for OHL games 3 days after that. The GUILT and angst. I can recall it within seconds two decades later! I’ve missed 2 kids birthdays I’d rather not have. My wife has been away for a couple of mine - it’s OK! We do what we do, & often w/ great sacrifice. Carney's seemingly shady shenanigans using our federal funds & pension funds to enrich himself and Brookfield actually began way back at the start of the 'pandemic'. So many responses to my private equity post claimed I’m making this up, that Canada is booming, attracting billions in foreign investment, and is a world-class destination for capital. That nothing is wrong with our economy and we can go head-to-head with the U.S. These charts mean nothing. Carney will make us a world leader. I’m not kidding, this is a pervasive view among many Canadians, especially within the LPC and their supporters. But here’s the reality: if we don’t see the problems, how can we fix them? If we keep making excuses, how can we make progress? I want Canada to be a world leader too. But let’s start by acknowledging that we’re currently in the last quartile. I appreciate the engagement, but some responses have crossed into harassment, and that’s not productive. My posts are based on data and analysis, not personal attacks. The goal isn’t to tear Canada down. It’s to have an honest conversation about where we stand and what needs improvement. Pretending everything is perfect doesn’t help us compete globally.
