Why do "forgot password link" emails take so long to arrive? It really conflicts with my habit of choosing random passwords that I can't remember.

@andreamatranga My NYU email from the PhD never expired, so I naively assumed this was the norm.

@OnuWeiss It happened to me before. Editors will find you just fine. Personally I think from PhD onwards academic emails should never expire. It's a Domino's Pizza level HR policy

My Oxford email will die in a month. What is the best way to ask people to stop emailing me there? And journals-wise, should I go to each journal's platform and manually change my email? What else????? I've never had an email account die --- it's very scary!!

@kunzhangte From what i gather, the it support people at Oxford can help me by extending the life of my email by like 15 days, but nothing more. Will look into the alias stuff. Thanks

@OnuWeiss For example, support.google.com/a/answer/33327…, or support.microsoft.com/en-au/office/a…, but I’m not sure if they’d allow you to use an Oxford email address as an alias…

@MarthaF_F For sure, need to remember to store all these old emails somewhere.

@TeemuPekkarinen Well, of course 100% of the people you heard from found you…. Then there’s those really important extremely exciting messages that you will never know about….

@OnuWeiss I had the same problem before but it turned out that people found me anyways! Luckily I had put two emails to journals (one gmail) so the problem wasn’t as big as I expected.

@ElliotLip Is the argument that carry-ons impose more externalities in terms of other people's time than checked bags? Is that true? The more people who check bags, the longer it takes for them to unload the bags, which is often quite long.

Currently on a plane where takeoff is being delayed at least 10 minutes customers trying to avoid checking their bags. How does one convey free economic advice to relevant decision makers at major airlines?

@mazzimon77 @Simon_Mongey The desire to be policy-relevant today can conflict with the desire to take risks and do something new. The first answer to a new question or the first analysis of a new mechanism is probably not ready for real world implementation. But it opens up new areas of research.

1/2 I think @JedKolko's views on @mattyglesias's blog devalue the academic research that goes on that moves at a little lower frequency than the objects Jed points to.

@mazzimon77 But it seems there's a short-run/long-run tradeoff. Policy relevant research today relies on the boundary pushing research of yesterday that wasn't ready for policy. And it's not necessarily the best use of time to make all boundary pushing research easily readable by outsiders.

Sometimes I'm shocked by how much I've been able to produce given that my usual motivation for writing is "if you write one paragraph, reward yourself with 45 minutes of procrastination."
