🇬🇧 Labour peer Baroness Margaret Hodge is the favourite to become the new head of Ofcom. The veteran Labour peer, who previously called for a ban on online anonymity, is understood to be one of three candidates shortlisted to replace Lord Grade as the media regulator’s chairman. The 81-year-old accused the Government of deliberately delaying the Online Safety Act to avoid difficult conversations with social media companies, saying she was prepared to campaign to make sure the law was tough enough. Hodge was appointed Minister for Children in 2003 but immediately came under fire for the systemic sexual abuse of children that occurred in care homes during her tenure as Leader of Islington Council. After labeling one victim, Demetrious Panton, as "extremely disturbed" in a letter to the BBC, she was forced to issue a High Court apology and pay a £30,000 settlement. Follow: @europa
