Per source, the 49ers and TE Jake Tonges have struck a two-year deal worth $8M overall and $5.5M guaranteed. Tonges, who filled in well for George Kittle last season, had been a restricted free agent.

If they really can’t come to an agreement, I would think they would trade him before cutting him. Per @Jason_OTC’s website the cap savings would be the same cut vs. trade, and in either case, the savings are minimal. I would be surprised if he doesn’t play for SF in 2026.

With five-time All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams scheduled to carry a $39 million cap number this season, he and the 49ers currently are struggling to find a contractual solution, per league sources. If the two sides can’t bridge their differences in their standoff, Williams would be expected to join this year’s free-agent class, making him one of the premier players available.

Is there a reason that hockey players don’t wear helmets/masks that cover their mouths? I get the tough guy stuff. Nobody is debating if hockey players are studs. But why expose your teeth/jaw if you don’t have to?

I am a kick first in OT guy so when you get the ball back you have four downs to get the yardage you need, but SF’s defense was gassed at that point and Ji’Ayir Brown and Lenoir had both come off the field because of injuries two plays earlier.

This is reality almost everyone ignored. I remember tweeting a ton about it at the time. The defense clearly needed rest. It would’ve been coaching malpractice to voluntarily send them out there. It’s much more plausible to argue Shanahan made a mistake settling for FG

I am so sad to learn of Chet Brooks' passing. "Terminator X" was an important player on the late '80s/early '90s 49ers after being picked in the 11th round of the '88 draft. When I was a young, clueless beat writer, he was so nice to me, taught me things and made me laugh. RIP.
