Today, 13 April, on the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Katyń Massacre, we pay tribute to the Polish prisoners of war who were brutally murdered by the NKVD in the spring of 1940. Their graves are symbols of truth and suffering, reminding us of the cruelty of totalitarianism and the persistent attempts to falsify history. We do not forget the victims whose lives were ended with a shot to the back of the head.

Another Polish Easter tradition is Śmigus-Dyngus, also known as Wet Monday. On Easter Monday, people sprinkle each other with water - a playful custom that once involved boys dousing girls and lightly tapping them with willow branches. The gestures were believed to bring good luck and health.

Under the Russian illegal occupation of Crimea, the Ukrainians and the Tatars, the Crimean indigenous people, are denied their basic rights. They are persecuted just for manifesting their national and cultural identity. Russia violates its obligations as a @UNESCO member.

Poland 🇵🇱 continues to support financially @UNESCO Action and Emergency Assitance in Ukraine. In my statement I condemned the recent Russian attack on the World Heritage site in Lviv. That was yet another example of the blatant and deliberate violation of the int. law by Russia.

Information mtg. on @UNESCO Action and Emergency Assistance in Ukraine. Since the launch of a full-scale invasion by Russia UNESCO has mobilized more than 75 mln USD for its assistance actions in 🇺🇦. Kudos to Chiara Bardeschi head of @UNESCO_kyiv & her team for a great work.

Poland supports the position expressed by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, @kajakallas, on March 31, 2026. We oppose the death penalty in all cases and circumstances. It is completely unacceptable in a state of law to apply the death penalty in a way that could be considered discriminatory against people of a particular nationality. Due to our particular historical sensitivity, we call on Israel to maintain a moratorium both on carrying out executions and on imposing the death penalty. The negative effects of the latest episode of instability in the Middle East are currently being felt around the world. Poland consistently maintains the position that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which underlies most of the security threats in the region, cannot be resolved in any way other than through negotiations conducted in good faith and with respect for international law.

At the request of 🇱🇧, supported by 🇵🇱, an extraordinary meeting of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict is taking place today. In my stmt. I’ve stressed that 🇵🇱 is strongly committed to the protection of cultural heritage. @UNESCO

Poland condemns in the strongest terms Russia's barbaric drone attack on the historic centre of Lviv - a @UNESCO World Heritage site. The 17th-century Monastery, a treasure of European civilisation shaped by centuries of Polish and Ukrainian history, set ablaze in a broad daylight. This is a deliberate assault on our shared memory and identity. Russia, a party to the Hague and UNESCO Conventions in name only, is destroying the very heritage these treaties exist to protect.
