At the same time, any threat to Cyprus can make the island's people reflect on common problems and the potential attacks, accidents, and economic difficulties that this region may face.

It can become a precedent. Once a military force arrives, it often becomes quite difficult to be removed. I also stress that long-term issues like the Cyprus question are pushed into the background during periods of hot conflict.

For the Turkish speaking friends, in my BBC interview today I emphasize that Cyprus has no intention of becoming involved in the current war. I argue though that while militarization is understandable operationally, it is never a good idea. bbc.com/turkce/article…
