The $7.6 trillion of US government debt is currently paying very low interest rates from the years back before 2022 when rates were near 0% to 1%. As that debt matures over the next 12 months, the US Treasury will rollover the debt and issue new debt at the current rates of 4.25% (10 year) to 5.47% (3 month yield). That will add about $300 billion per year in interest payments on the debt on top of what we currently pay. This will increase annual interest payments on the debt from the current level of $1 trillion per year to about $1.3 trillion per year.
