I bought a second hand 2009 Prius four years ago. A friend misplaced the electronic key. Cost me $2000 to get the entire dashboard removed and the computer system that deals with the electronic key upgraded. The car had sat for a while without the battery being used. Mechanic told me it would cost 4-5k to replace the hybrid battery. This whole time I owned it I felt so good about helping to save the planet. The repairs of the high tech systems are worth more than the car now so I had to give it away to save the cost of towing. With the new digital surveillance in autos our subjection will be complete. An old school fossil fuel engine and a metal car key give you far more power, privacy and autonomy.

Seeing more talk of Alberta’s proposed new West Coast oil pipeline in the news, up to 1 million bbl/d to tidewater for Asian markets, yet it’s realistically years or a decade away from shovels due to endless red tape.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia runs their East-West Pipeline at full 7 million !!!! bbl/d capacity as a strategic backup, quickly repairing it after attacks to keep flows uninterrupted.
Why can the Saudis prioritize energy security with massive redundant infrastructure, while Canada struggles to approve even one new line , especially as WCS discounts widen whenever pipelines fill up with minimal geopolitical risk of anybody blowing up Canadian infrastructure…

The TMX (Trans Mountain Expansion) twins the existing pipeline with ~980 km of new pipe from Strathcona County (near Edmonton), Alberta, to Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby, BC.
73% follows the original right-of-way, 16% uses existing utility corridors, and 11% is new route to dodge urban growth.
It starts in Alberta's flat prairies and farmland, climbs into rolling forested hills, then crosses the Rocky Mountains into BC's rugged interior valleys.
