@jonjonaug @LlehSaDerob @walperabend @loopermonder It seemed to me that Kariya was very distrustful of Tokiomi, maybe because of Aoi. From what I recall, it seemed like Kariya thought he knew what was happening, and he wasn’t in the right mind to make it clear, and likely felt it wouldn’t matter in the first place.

The most effective way to save Sakura would be to tell Tokiomi about her situation, or to ally with another Servant to save Sakura in exchange for withdrawing from the war (Rider would work). Instead he clings to his delusional hero fantasy.

@PerseusRad @walperabend @loopermonder Like, I've thought about this before and it's probably because Urobuchi didn't care about them, but Kariya shows no actual concern for his brother, who's also stuck in the house with Zouken, or his nephew, who'll be stuck with the family when the 4th Holy Grail War is over.

@LlehSaDerob @walperabend @loopermonder I just feel like, if he had managed to save Sakura and still not gotten Aoi, he would’ve been overall satisfied, and if he had to choose between saving Sakura and getting Aoi, he would’ve chosen the former. I feel that says more about him than what was pried out after torture.

@PerseusRad @walperabend @loopermonder Oh, I know. He genuinely did want to help Sakura. But that desire to help was mostly influenced by his feelings for Aoi. The girl he chose to not marry because he didn't want her to get involved with the Matou Family. He's not a bad guy at all, but he's not a good one either.

@LlehSaDerob @walperabend @loopermonder I feel like that’s an ungracious way of thinking about Kariya. I don’t think he was a perfect saint or anything, but people tend to take his mindset when he was driven insane by pain as his true mindset, which I feel isn’t very fair towards him.

@walperabend @loopermonder Kariya's slow descent into madness is also something I think was well done, along with those. And what makes it better is that his madness actually exposed the kind of person he was deep down. It's not like he just became a different person. It made him a lot more complex.

@emiya_valentine I think of the Far Side routes, Sacchin’s will be the one that’s least adhered to. I think her route is the best one for the SHIKI -> Roa midroute transformation (like the manga) to occur. I have some other thoughts, but regardless, I don’t think he’ll squander SHIKI completely.

@emiya_valentine I think there’s a valid possibility that he gets some good stuff in Satsuki’s route if we consider his circumstances to be parallel to hers. Or Nasu’ll just revamp the others routes to make him less one-note.
