It fascinates me that giving to charities is considered noble and praiseworthy.

You can't live 200 years on a planet with dead oceans, dead forests, and broken food and social systems for most living things. Whales are essential to ocean ecosystems and keeping the earth's climate balanced. They're also living creatures who deserve life for their own merit.
