Sarah Hurley will withdraw her name from the transfer portal and head back to Cleveland State, per source. Started 20 games last year and is a good piece to have back for new head coach Bob Dunn. Nearly a 40% 3-point shooter on 3.5 attempts per game.

@ShotClockTodd @KyleHZRT I hope the best for the team. I don’t know who they plan to hire but the person is going to have a complete roster tear down. What you hope is that CSU after year one of the new coach the players don’t transfer. CSU mens is dealing with that at the moment

@PitcairnSteven @KyleHZRT Shelby is a great person. Hiring SHelby as HC would duplicate what they did on the men's side. Hard pass. They need to duplicate the hiring of Chris. A lower level coach with a strong record of winning. Those kind of guys aren't gone in 2-3 years to bigger pastures.

The rumor mill says that CSU is bringing the finalists in this weekend. So, from the players' point of view, they probably have a pretty good idea of where things are headed at this point.

@KyleHZRT True I agree with that. CSU will hire a good coach regardless if it’s Kate or not. The hope for me is to see a coach go to Indy and be in the hunt for a top four spot. The horizon league should be interesting with YSU and Green Bay and Detroit battling it out for spot one

Well, Chris Kielsmeier's program did that. Ultimately, it's just a logo, now moreso than ever. Regardless, and mercifully, it's probably all going to shake out in the next few days.

@KyleHZRT She might but she wouldn’t have left Green Bay unless the opportunity of a head coaching was still on the table. I would be stunned if she didn’t take the csu job. A team who averages twenty wins a year and makes it to the semifinals and postseason each year

@KyleHZRT You already know who the coach is and if I remember you did a story on her at one point in the season . I just hope the new coach is able to get players here quick. We will have to wait and see but I’m pretty sure she will get the job.

Selfishly, that would've been great for me. I sincerely really like everyone from the staff this past season, and I'm not looking forward to trying to "win over" new people, a process that usually takes like two years.

@KyleHZRT If it’s not an internal candidate why CSU choosing an outside candidate all the time? Let’s say they had hired Shelby she could keep a few players. Now they have to find fifteen or ten new players with all the transfers leaving that’s hard to do.

@KyleHZRT Being a CSU fan and to groom an assistant coach and then to not even offer her is disappointing to me. Im not making the choose but I saw how it played out for the men’s team it’s hard with all new players. The new coach will be good and treat you well Kyle :)

That said, I think Detroit Mercy this past season proves that "just keep it rolling" doesn't always work, then you're left turning it all over anyway. And CSU had huge graduation holes to fill before any of this.

There really isn't much incentive to do that, especially with a school going late-ish in the cycle. You wait around and don't like the coach, then what? Everyone's full. You can always come back later, if you want, but the portal is how you keep options open right now.

@KyleHZRT It’s sad to see I thought csu over the years did a really good job keeping players. Now it seems like a lot of players are transferring because of opportunities to earn a higher seed in March madness. Better opportunities as well but really sad to see the horizon lose

Good rule of thumb, IMO: you should probably see it coming for any top Horizon League player. Of the six All-HL picks from 2024-25 with remaining eligibility, five transferred (Aaliyah McQueen was the exception, if you're wondering).

Per her IG: Youngstown State sophomore F Sophia Gregory, last year's Horizon League Freshman of the Year and this year's Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year, plans to enter the transfer portal. That's definitely the Penguins' biggest portal loss thus far.
