Like a lot of people, I’ve been disappointed by the state of the Lord’s pitch. That said, atmospheric conditions have also played a big part. Doesn’t everyone say, at Lord’s, look up? Some people are now saying the pitch is a disgrace. I would just caution people to think a little bit about the ground staff. Creating a good pitch is trial and error and a very inexact science. It’s really hard to do well all the time. I’ve no doubt that the Lord’s ground staff would’ve absolutely slaved over this pitch in an effort to get it right. They’ll likely be mortified by the criticism and how things have turned out. So maybe put yourself in their shoes for a second before being too harsh.
