@hiroco_kyuukon This is insane, I admit I had Noa and Asuma marry and raise a child, but I still wanted to keep her from becoming just a housewife (She trains other labor pilots at an academy). Hearing how he pushed this role onto Noa and pushed Yuuki and the other members away from the-

@hiroco_kyuukon I finally got around to reading "The path to death of a spring that lasted too long" and it was a bit of a trip! Even though I had to put the fanfiction through a translator, the feeling of melancholy and longing were really strong.

@Protodedester This CD contains the Telephone Service audio. It follows the TV series / New OVA continuity, and the script was written by Michiko Yokote. In the TRUE/FALSE section, they explicitly say that Asuma is NOT a virgin.

@hiroco_kyuukon Aside from that, regarding the Yukie thing, couldn't you interpret that as Asuma preferring not to be called Asuma-kun because of him associating it with Kashima referring to him that way and his feelings toward her?

@hiroco_kyuukon Asuma's got sexual experience? That's the first time I've heard that, to me he's always seemed like the kind of guy who didn't know how to handle a woman...

@hiroco_kyuukon This being my favorite example, unintended foreshadowing from the manga

@hiroco_kyuukon This looks about right. Wanna know something funny? Whenever I am analyzing Asuma I tend to talk about a more “composite” version of him. There are differences in how each member handles him, but I like to see how the actions of one may inspire the decisions of another

@hiroco_kyuukon Also I do posses the novels but I haven't read them since I still need to work on my reading skills in Japanese. However I have considered just using translation tools, even if the output isn't ideal

@hiroco_kyuukon He then does his best to "protect" Noa from facing the same loss and hardship he has, whether or not it'd be at her disadvantage. Stuff like this makes me appreciate Asuma because there's a lot to him that add depth to his character

@hiroco_kyuukon Regardless of what the author says I have delusion on my side, so I can unashamedly believe that my dreams will come true 🥲 I guess as you said, maybe several years ago they were curious about the pairing before they started getting cautious on how they describe their relations

@Protodedester Honestly, when it comes to the idea that “Noa must never become an ordinary, stereotypical woman,” I don’t think anyone is more stubborn about that than Masami Yuki.

@hiroco_kyuukon That's a little funny, Asuma seemed a lot more brash in the manga in comparison (though he quickly loosened up). Asuma in the TV series was probably Asuma at his kindest, still being somewhat of a jerk but stopping at nothing to support Noa when she needed it

@Protodedester My earlier comment was only about anime Asuma in the episodes written by Kazunori Ito. Honestly, I don’t even think Headgear themselves see manga Asuma and anime Asuma as all that consistent.

@hiroco_kyuukon It's a little ironic since usually this kind of ambiguity is left for same sex pairings in media, most people would be content with them being a couple. However I guess it's down to the writers to decide the fate of their characters. As a fan though, I can hope for surprises 😤

@Protodedester At this point they seem willing to admit only that Asuma and Noa are “especially close among coworkers.” Like… oh my god.

@hiroco_kyuukon Asuma is a bit of a bully who tends to do what he wants despite the wishes of others, though to me he also seemed like the type of person who couldn't bring himself to genuinely hurt the people he cares about. I think his self destructive nature can really only go so far

@hiroco_kyuukon I think it's possible it could be addressed in a manner similar to the manga, where the development of their relationship is heavily implied yet not outright specified. I think Headgear likes to play around with the ambiguity of it, but I do hope it's different from Sushiya

@hiroco_kyuukon It's the first time I've seen Asuma depicted in such a way, in art and fanfiction, by women, do depict Asuma as a lot more assertive and domineering. In this fanfiction it did look as if he had some kind of underlying psychopathic tendencies, to which I wonder where it comes from

@Protodedester As a side note, when Asuma is about to strangle Noa to death, I also have him say the same line — “let off your burden” (楽にしてあげる). In Japanese, that phrase works in both situations. What it means here is: I’ll release you / I’ll set you free.

@hiroco_kyuukon Their relationship in Sushiya always felt contradictory to what was being established in the OVA. Watching Snow Rondo, it looked as if the episode directly challenged Asuma's tendency to hesitate with his feelings. The final episode was his first step toward being honest with her

@Protodedester Because in Sushiya no Goto, Noa says to Asuma that she’d “let off his burden” (楽にしてあげる), I set Noa up, logically, as someone who had already clearly realized at that point that she was in love with Asuma.
