Not everything is negative this week. I came across a video of a Kenyan commander in Congo handling a very tense situation and honestly, respect. Locals had blocked UN forces, accusing MONUSCO of working with ADF and M23 rebels (the same group linked to killing a Kenyan truck driver recently). But this commander stepped in, listened, and calmed things down. Locals even say he’s been doing a good job. We rarely highlight our own when they do right. 🇰🇪👇

Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters have arrested Peter Maingi Kimani alias Menelik Kimani, who is suspected of recording a video containing a threatening message and sharing it on his TikTok account earlier this week. The suspect was smoked out of his hideout in the Gachage area of Kiganjo, Gatundu South Sub-County, where he had holed up after committing the offence. He is currently undergoing processing pending arraignment. The DCI reminds the public that while freedom of expression is guaranteed in the Constitution, its enjoyment should not be used as a tool to promote or justify the violation of the rights of others. The Directorate further reiterates that no effort will be spared in addressing any irresponsible use of social media, especially where there is a threat to peace and security.

In our efforts to strengthen and motivate our service men and women working in operational areas, the NPS has promoted Corporal Winfred Gacheri Kinoti from the rank of Constable. Together with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, presided over the promotion ceremony during our security and citizen service assessment in Nanyuki, Laikipia County. Corp. Kinoti has been in the service for 18 years and has been working in Mukogodo forest for the last three years as the only female officer. Congratulations, Corporal. We remain committed to encouraging our service men and women as they continue to serve our country, especially in banditry-prone areas.
