Born in Lurgan, Co Armagh, 30th April 1920, Joshua Walter ‘Paddy’ Sloan. He signed for United in 1937 from Glenavon. However before a first team opportunity presented itself he left for Tranmere Rovers in 1939. Paddy actually played for United’s first team as a guest player in World War 2 and had a post war stint in Italy, playing for AC Milan, Torino, Brescia, and Udinese.
