Dear Woke Leftist Activists In Kids Animation, For ten years you have been running this industry. You've been hired for your immutable characteristics, cultural background, gender identity, etc. You've gleefully enjoyed a Hollywood landscape with DEI's thumb on the hiring scale, eliminating most straight white males from competing with you. After a decade of this, the industry is in ruins. Jobs are more scarce than ever. And the town and country's appetite and tolerance for your woke bullshit and victimhood status that you have made your entire brand is no longer in fashion. Over the years, I have sat in so many meetings with you arrogant, vile, hate-filled racists/sexists spewing anti-white, anti-male garbage. You were all so comfortable saying this stuff. Patting yourselves on the back for shoving your woke religion into every single show. Know this: If you are an artist, designer, writer, EP, director or executive on a kids animated show at any major studio in LA, I very likely know who you are. And I am coming for you. This is a very, very small industry. And I'm going to do everything I can to make every major studio know your names and know that employing you is a risk and a liability they can't afford to take on. If you're having trouble finding work now, you're about to have way more trouble finding work. This is a promise. #CancelNetflix

@Noveby39 @Woody56292 It is all those things too. I don’t mean to sound as if the reason I discussed is the only one. It is a trouble stew

@Woody56292 @Redtornado1234 Nah it's moreso bad/mid superhero fatigue, bad writing fatigue, slop fatigue and bad tv show/movie fatigue due to oversaturated low quality projects and provoked decisions that caused people to lose interest. People still care about the concept of SH just not when it's not good.

@miguel_4703 @wesburt Why ask me for a definition only to redefine it yourself? And it is not the only cause for loss of profit, it is one of several causes. If I thought it was the only cause I would be lying to myself just as if you think it is not one of the causes you are lying to yourself.

@Redtornado1234 @wesburt Can you explain how woke is toxic when most “woke” projects is just inclusion of members of minority groups ALONGSIDE majority groups and can you also give proof that “woke” is the specific cause of loss to profit because correlation doesn’t imply causation

@Krimsin @wesburt Great counter argument: “All movies are profitable eventually” in response to layoffs that are happening now. I guess they’ll get new jobs eventually! Loser

@Redtornado1234 @wesburt oh so you are choosing to be stupid, got it. btw, movies are still profitable even when they leave theaters, be it merch sales, rentals, toys, clothes, dvd’s, or even watching them on streaming, almost all movies are profitable eventually

@Krimsin @wesburt Leftists never consider the consequences of their beliefs in action. Just shut down the economy! Just put gay in every movie - I love it so why shouldn’t china or Eastern Europe or South America? Who cares if the core audience is men? Women will show up to action movies, right?

@Krimsin @wesburt Who was in favor of shutting down movie theaters for years? Oh yes, the pronouns in bio people. Spending two years training audiences to stream helps make streaming more popular doesn’t it? And China largely rejects our films because they all have progressive western values.

I love James Gray. But unless he or any other artist is willing to work for free, and only get paid contingent on these "cultural investments" making money, then this is just advocating for spending other people's money to make your pet projects that there's not a real market for. But if everyone's working for free, what's the incentive to complete the work, especially if your name isn't James Gray? It's not your name that gets added to the top of the credits.
cinesthetic.@TheCinesthetic

James Gray argues that studios should be allowed to lose money on their art and specialty divisions, saying those films are cultural investments, not just profit centers.

@fringeblog While I know inflation is a factor, I can remember Water World costing $90M and they built a free-floating island set in the Pacific Ocean twice (first set was destroyed in a storm). Now everything's made in a soundstage and costs 3x as much. Ai following suit. Absurd.

@fringeblog Sure. I just think they should be more dynamic. Make 5 tentpole "not so risky" movies at $250 million each. And make 5 smaller films for $50 million (or less) each. If 1 of those 5 lower budget films hits, it makes up for the risk of the other 4.

@Redtornado1234 Horror offers terrific, perennially less risky fare, and there are obviously pictures being made in the $3-30M range that do great. But these aren't what studios are defining their yearly slates with. Every single one of those movies you mentioned was not generated by studios.

@fringeblog Lots of horror films do that. Five Nights at Freddy's 1 and 2. Godzilla minus 1, $15M made like $150M, Terrifier 2 $250k made $15M, The Whale $3M made $55M, Sound of Freedom 14.5M made 250M. Some of these are franchises too so that stuff can be made on a budget

MBFGW was 24 years ago. Is there a studio project in the last 6-8 years that had that kind of return? Parasite ($11M) was ~23x, though that wasn't a US studio produced picture. A Quiet Place ($17M) did almost 20x, as did Joker ($55M) Nothing approaching 74x. Economics way different.

@miguel_4703 @wesburt A non-film example: Busy steak house. Bad Yelp review says need more vegan representation on menu So they change menu from beef steaks to vegan steaks (go woke) Vegans happy! Meat ppl stop coming. Not enough vegans to sustain steakhouse. Lays off wait staff. Closes. (go broke)

@miguel_4703 @wesburt Woke is a toxic, overwrought expression of liberalism. Brands "core" audiences. Ex. Barbie's core is women. Marvel's is men. Aiming a brand at a narrower group for reasons of representation or other social message/goal (go woke) results in loss of profit over time (go broke)

@fandompulse True. They always get rid of the artists first. And the rotten do-nothing executives who encourage and sustain the rot get to stick around.

Pop culture pundit YellowFlash reacts to Disney's recent layoffs at Marvel Studios: "They still haven't gutted all the rot out of Marvel. And until every Hollywood studio does that, they can do all the [expletive] that they want, it's not going to change until they get all the [expletive] out. But they don't want to do that. ... Until they stop [letting people fail upward and keep untalented slime around] nothing changes." Do you think Disney's cleaning house here? Or is this a result of the Marvel era ending? Will the company actually course correct? Can it?

@fringeblog I don't know if it works at studio level either. But I think studios' best bet is to take calculated risks on lower budget fare. Random example, but My Big Fat Greek Wedding cost $5M and made $368M. 74x profit. Avengers Endgame cost $356M and made 1.94B. 6x profit.

@Redtornado1234 And look, I'm not disagreeing with the spirit of what you're suggesting. Blumhouse made banger money that way (at the $1-7M scale). I don't know if it works at the studio level anymore, though.

@fringeblog There is no such thing as 0 risk. But if you were making a sequel to the Barbie movie, you would aim it at women not male NASCAR enthusiasts. That seems likes “surer” bet. When Barbie makes a billion, make the representation movie about her handicapped cousin for $30M.

@Redtornado1234 In theory, a great idea. In practice, still quite risky. Look at how many big movies w big budgets have flopped when they were expected to return big revenues. So again, it's easy for the artist to say this, but it's not the artist's money that is on the line.

@ArlingtonDiva @wesburt Yes the next Avengers movie will be a huge hit because they had to bring back the people that everyone was showing up to see. They're paying RDJ 90M to return. Tell me, will "Ecco" or "Agatha" or "She-Hulk" or "The Deaf Female Eternal" or "Harry Styles" be in it? If not why not?

@Redtornado1234 @wesburt If you think Marvel is going broke the joke's on you. Just like Oracle and Amazon aren't going broke. They are replacing humans with AI and you may not be immune. You will see when the next Avengers movie hits the theater like crack.

@Krimsin @wesburt Except in this exact case where the biggest studio on the planet was making billions at the box office playing to their core audience (straight men) just a few years ago is laying off thousands because they alienated those men to target women and every minutia minority group.

@Redtornado1234 @wesburt Comics, Marvel or DC, were "woke" long time before this little word you're so eager to accuse everyone of. Are you reading comics and watching movies with the wrong head, at least try to exercise your mind a bit, I mean, beyond the brainwashing that got you like this sick blind.

@HugoCGuerra Bc they spent a decade making Marvel for girls and every minutia minority group that doesn't watch Marvel and now they have to spend $750M to bring back the male audience they spent a decade alienating. When you treat a for-profit company like an activist charity this happens.
