@daniel_knauf It's on Criterion streaming. They've curated a ton of Harry Dean Stanton flicks!

@MOVIETVWRITERX Fair. I was thinking about features and certain ones tbh
English

@daniel_knauf Much of it is planted PR.
Publicists manufacturer plenty of "news" for their clients. It's all illusion.

Most people think they’re experts on showbiz despite never having worked near it, much less in it.
This is a natural result of the rise in popularity of “entertainment news.” It’s made every uber driver, school teacher, plumber, accountant, retiree and homemaker believe they’re some kind of Sammy Glick.
In fact, in my experience as an actual insider, about 90% of entertainment reporting is total bullshit.

Bring the fight. Bring the ugly truth. Bring everything the daylight hours will try to water down. Bring the blood. Spill it now.

Dawn doesn’t negotiate. It arrives, honest, brutal, unflinching. Same with the work. Get in the chair (or couch). The page is waiting like a dog that hasn’t been fed. Feed it your bones and scraps of flesh.

@fringeblog This is a moment where humans, desperate to retain their belief in the primacy of the species, have kneejerk reactions to AI. We are disregarding the merit of ideas in favor of judging the source of them. This phase will end and we can return to evaluating the ideas themselves.
English

I'm not loving that Pangram flags a lot of my prose as AI.
I was curious and pasted a chapter from my 10-year old book Gabriel Lux Is Okay into Substack and ran the AI detection check on it just for shits and giggles and it came back 100% AI.
Which it absolutely was not. I have timestamp proof!

@rondrescher If someone accused you of plagiarism, you would probably be a little annoyed if it weren't true.

@cairoasmith We did the real photos+Photoshop trick for our film.
By and large it's more than adequate for the job, even for close-ups.
English

Interestingly, there is largely no place on my film After After where generative AI would actually be a benefit in generating creative assets. It just has terrible taste. I trust myself a million times more.
One exception, potentially, is in creating childhood photos of the characters for set dressing—but we're still not going to do it, both because it risks a specific uncanniness and because there's value (especially right now) in being able to just say "zero generative AI in this film" to preserve audience trust.
We'll just take real old photos and do it in Photoshop. That's how I first learned to do it, anyway.

@jeffreyhoward33 Another kid?? or an adult??
Not sure which is worse. I'm sorry.

The room is cold. The mind is fogged. The clock is laughing. Good. Write anyway. Turn the discomfort into sentences that bleed faster than they can be staunched.
You're not here to be an EMT. You're a serial killer of clean pages. #5AMWritersClub

@cairoasmith The irony of me responding to this after our conversation tonight.
Anyway, go to town with Ulysses Everett McGill from O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Anastasia Steele from Fifty Shades of Grey.

Someone in DC set up a “little free blockbuster” with DVDs inside instead of books lol

The morning is a clean blade. Most people sleep through it. You don’t. You sit down and cut the page open before you even remember your own name. That’s an edge worth keeping.
