Angela Rayner desperately pitches for deputy job under Burnham while pushing more benefits spending Angela Rayner has launched a desperate pitch for a top job under Andy Burnham by boasting about securing billions for housing while defending Labours ballooning benefits bill and opposing any cuts to welfare. Burnham is already under fire for courting left wing figures like Ed Miliband and now Rayner appears to be angling for the deputy role to lock in more high spending and Net Zero dogma that has already cost jobs and driven up bills. Many in the party and the City fear that a Burnham Rayner axis would mean even higher taxes bigger government and further economic decline after the chaos of the last two years under Starmer.

I've just learned that Rachel Reeves is in this picture, and she didn’t stand outside No. 10 and clap for the PM after he resigned. Considering she has caused a lot of the bad feeling towards Labour with her useless schemes, you'd have thought she might have shown some loyalty to Starmer, who stood by her through every challenge. Unbelievable treachery.
