The first day back…

‘I suspect to some extent, Keir Starmer would like to get revenge on Andy Burnham, there is some pretty bad blood between the two men.’ GB News Political Correspondent Olivia Utley brings an update on the unfolding chaos around the leadership of the Labour Party.

🚨 PICTURED: Andy Burnham takes a selfie with Labour MPs

Andy Burnham pretends to be disabled at a football match. Is this the man we want leading Britain?

- Cabinet largely expected to be same faces around table albeit in different positions - This is for two reasons: 1) Burnham aware he lacks mandate and needs to keep team that won election 2) what a Labour source describes as "total lack of talent" among junior MPs - Big push to stop Ed Miliband becoming Chancellor. Others in mix include Streeting, Cooper, Healey, Mahmood (who wants to stay as Home Sec) - Likely return to Cabinet for Louise Haigh, Rayner (said to be eyeing up education) thesun.co.uk/news/39518106/…

Exclusive from @oliver_wright Andy Burnham is understood to have held secret talks with Sir Keir Starmer, as the prime minister pledged to smooth his transition to power Starmer was said to have left Downing Street for an hour-long “off-site” meeting with Burnham — the first time the two men had spoken since he returned to Westminster Starmer decided today to allow the cabinet secrerary to begin transition talks with the former Greater Manchester mayor even though nominations for the Labour leadership contest had not yet opened thetimes.com/article/2f9f88…

Hope they are taking minutes, whats app disappearing messages are disengaged and their phones don't get nicked. 🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️

Great to meet again this morning with @theresa_may at the House of Lords. Ten years after the #Brexit nothing to celebrate except friendship, mutual respect and lessons drawn.

All that’s wrong with British politics summed up in one photo

Andy Burnham was elected by only 0.03% of the British public. He wasn’t elected under the current Labour manifesto. He has been an MP for only a few hours in this parliament. He would have weakest mandate of ANY potential prime minister in modern history.
