Yesterday I joined my Democratic colleagues in introducing legislation regarding ICE operations in Ohio. My bill with Rep. @TWRader would prevent the selling or distributing of sensitive personal data unless it is used for a legally defined, permitted purpose.

Today’s press conference in solidarity with our Somali Community was truly heartwarming— we are one community. The President’s hateful and harmful rhetoric has no place here.

We must reject rhetoric that fuels hatred. Columbus is home to one of the largest Somali populations in the country, and our communities are all stronger because of our Somali neighbors.

I am happy to share that HB 472 passed out of committee today. This bipartisan bill removes financial barriers so Ohioans experiencing homelessness can access vital documents like IDs and birth certificates. Please urge the Speaker to bring it to the House floor for a vote!

It’s been an important week for strengthening Ohio’s response to missing persons cases. HR 227 passed the House unanimously, and HB 217 is set for another hearing next week. I was honored to share these updates with the Governor’s Missing Persons Working Group.

House Resolution 227, urging the US Department of Justice to expedite the connection between NCIC and NamUs, was passed unanimously on the House floor yesterday 🎉 Next up: hopefully a vote on its relation legislation, House Bill 217 💪🏻

Today, I was proud to give sponsor testimony on HB 524 alongside Rep. Mathews. We’ve seen tragic cases where people lost their lives after AI suggested or assisted in self-harm. Ohio must act to protect vulnerable users and prevent more families from experiencing this loss.
