Attorney General Russell Coleman announced today that London Mayor Randall Weddle has been indicted by a Laurel County Grand Jury on four Class D felony counts of Campaign Contribution Restriction/Expenditure Limits violations — two tied to illegal contributions to Andy Beshear’s gubernatorial campaign and two to the Kentucky Democratic Party. This is merely the latest act in what has been a one-man corruption circus for years. Weddle has faced lawsuits for doxxing critics by circulating their personal information (including Social Security numbers) in anonymous mailers, firing cops who wouldn’t kiss the ring, and a host of other allegations including wrongful termination, harassment of a former city clerk, and retaliation against political opponents he publicly labeled part of a “pedo clan.” He was even impeached and temporarily booted by his own city council on misconduct charges including misusing police resources, making improper appointments, signing a $5 million mortgage without approval, and violating open records laws before a judge reinstated him. On top of that, his administration has drawn an FBI criminal investigation over the alleged misuse of federal criminal background check databases on his enemies. For a mayor who campaigned on “public service,” the pattern is clear: bending rules, targeting critics, and treating laws as optional suggestions while funneling money to the Democratic machine. AG Coleman’s action is long-overdue accountability. The circus in London has run long enough.
