So it’s not really nepotism, but because this phenomenon has diminished, it can feel odd when someone suddenly blows up. Success tends to give you a headstart in related industries though. I ended up becoming a FT VTuber because I was already well known before VTubing

A couple years ago it was way more common for an already popular internet figure to jump into VTubing. Nyanners brought a lot of weebs into VTubing in 2020, for example. ZONE also became a VTuber and still does VTubing. Skittykat dabbled in it, PixieWillow VTubes as well
This phenomenon cooled down by 2024 because, to be blunt, ENVTubing has a really poor reputation for drama and political infighting. A lot of people do not want to navigate EN because its reputation has diminished.
Six years ago, VTubing felt freeing and revolutionary. Now a lot of people say stuff like “why is it always a VTuber?” when VTuber drama hits the larger internet

One of my non-VTuber friends sat me down and spent an hour explaining his conspiracy theory about VTuber nepotism. His argument was that every year a seemingly unknown VTuber appears out of nowhere, immediately starts collabing with some of the biggest names, joins established creator circles/friend groups, and then seemingly blows up overnight despite having little prior presence or following. He even brought up 3 recent examples of this. I went into the conversation thinking he was completely insane, but by the end I had to admit he actually had some surprisingly solid points. His theory is that a lot of “new” indie VTubers who break through aren’t really unknowns at all and that they’re friends or family of established creators being quietly introduced into the scene. He thinks that to make them more palatable and marketable they’re made out to be small indie creators like me and you, when in reality they have backing, funds from being previously successful creators and a team behind them. Guys do you think he’s right? 😭

With the amount of people complaining about gaming being too expensive, you think there'd be more people advocating for gaming to be cheaper and more affordable
Instead they just endlessly complain about not being able to play the latest games and never try emulating older games

If the reason is economics it’s one thing. But some people really only engage in playthroughs, essays and recaps. The issue bred is; you don’t form your own view from this. You mimic whatever content you view. Commonly causing people to miss the experience required to be a fan

While it is normal to feel this way, after all it is rooted in our primitive brain, we should be able to acknowledge when that feeling doesn't really correspond and be able to practice stoicism and do our own thing.

The problem here is the need to belong.
If you have a phone that runs X you can easily play thousands of games on it.
But you would rather watch a playthrough of a specific games because you want to "be a fan" of it.
We want to play the current thing to be part of the discussion.

Man I would have loved to play god of war, but I couldn’t because I didn’t have s PlayStation or pc as a kid. So I had to watch people like jacksepticeye play it because I couldnt afford a console. To call someone a larper for that is honestly classist and privileged
