Good things come from great teams. I’m so happy to share the publication of “Neuro-Oncology for the Clinical Neurologist” - the work of a truly tremendous team; I’m honored to have been able to help lead this group and hope that a copy will find its way into your hands./1

Heading over to Boston for the #aanam to see all my @AANmember cronies, collaborators, and co-conspirators. I plan to pop up all over the convention center throughout the week, sort of like an evil leprechaun. Here are some talks/events I'll be helping with, so come say howdy!

@NeuroSjogrens Thank you @NeuroSjogrens. Patient stories are indeed powerful teaching tools - not only for residents but in this study the neurology faculty and the patients also benefited - a win-win-win.

People w #Sjogrens #NeuroSjogrens would love their practitioners to put patient perspectives front & center. & apparently practitioners learn material better with this experience & focus. Interesting thread re introducing new teaching style to Neuro's in training.

6/Key Finding #2: Resident themes were: 1⃣Patient perspective is central: hearing directly from patients was the most useful 2⃣This format taught SDM: residents were able to see longitudinal management decisions rarely seen elsewhere 3⃣Faculty were role models

Of the hundreds of noon conference lectures I attended as a resident, this series stood out as innovative and impactful. Thanks @GGheihmanMD et al. for sharing your methods and results so that others can benefit! @Tracey1milligan

Brilliant! Residents are increasingly choosing inpatient neurology jobs. However, the need is likely to be for more outpatient care in the future. Outpatient neurology training is suboptimal. This is a great first step to build on and encourage residents to choose outpt jobs

@StaceyLClardy @foxmdphd So true @StaceyLClardy. What r the cortical networks & cortico-limbic connections that are recruited when learning happens in a patient-centered & relationship-focused way? It would be a great fMRI/connectomics study. Patient stories are deeply imprinted 2 help shape my practice.

Bravo for this work - I’ve forgotten A LOT over the course of my training and career thus far. But I’ve never forgotten something I’ve learned from a real patient interaction/experience; those are stored differently, almost visceral ♥️🧠 (@foxmdphd I see a pathway study here 😉)

11/What is Yet to Do? 1. "These conferences alone are likely not sufficient to guide residents toward outpatient careers" ➡️We need more 2. Residents were more aware of SDM but failed to implement it in their care ➡️Witnessing patients and faculty is not enough; what about sim?
