Almost half a thousand drones and cruise missiles attacked Ukraine. At least one person was killed and others injured. In Obukhiv, a drone smashed into a residential building. Terrorist Russia strikes in broad daylight deliberately—to maximise civilian casualties and damage. This is how Moscow responds to Ukraine’s Easter Ceasefire proposals—with brutal attacks. Russian terrorists reject diplomacy and peace efforts. They must get strong responses that they deserve.

Our signal to the United States and countries in the Middle East about the Strait of Hormuz was that we were open to discussing it. As of today, I don't see any country lifting the blockade on its own, only joint steps can bring results. Ukraine has experience with launching the Grain Corridor in the Black Sea despite Russia’s attempts to block the flow of food and other goods. The situation now is similar, but it is about energy. Our suggestion – based on our experience – was as follows. The war and the negotiations on reopening the Hormuz Strait can go in parallel. It’s worth trying to find a diplomatic solution, and this could be beneficial for both sides in the war. An alternative step would be to control the Strait unilaterally, as Ukraine did with the Grain Corridor. Achieving this would require interceptors, military convoys to escort the vessels, a large integrated electronic warfare network, and other tools. We stand ready to help with this. But for now, we are not yet involved. So far, no one has made such a request. We are simply sharing our knowledge. If one day our partners want to make use of it, we would be ready. From an interview with NewsNation.

🚨 Ukraiński attache konsularny pracujący w Ambasadzie Ukrainy w Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej zatrzymany na granicy. Próbował wywieźć: 140 tys. $, 68 tys. €, 12 kg złota, 13,8 kg biżuterii. „Szczury opuszczają statek” – jak widać, dotyczy też dyplomatów. #Ukraina #Korupcja #Złoto

I had a phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi today to discuss the situation in Iran and its impact on the global economy and energy security. We also discussed EU-China relations. Iranian attacks on civilian ships, and the threat of more, have brought traffic in the Strait of Hormuz to a near halt. This is why restoring safe, toll-free freedom of navigation in the Strait, consistent with the Law of the Sea, is an urgent priority. The EU supports all diplomatic efforts to achieve this and calls for de-escalation and restraint. Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure must cease.

Europe is heading toward one of the most severe economic crises in its history. The world is facing a serious energy crisis. Europe is in grave danger. The only way out is to lift the sanctions imposed on Russian energy. Immediately. We must think not about Putin, but about our own country and our peoples. Instead of warmongering, love and save your country, Donald!
Donald Tusk@donaldtusk

The threat of NATO’s break-up, easing sanctions on Russia, a massive energy crisis in Europe, halting aid for Ukraine and blocking the loan for Kyiv by Orbán - it all looks like Putin’s dream plan.

Within 3 years, I went from thinking that Israel was a strategic ally—our Middle East deputy for maintaining peace in that region—to realizing that it a terrorist state holding our government leaders hostage and using America’s military to pursue its goals of imperialism In my mind, it has gone from benevolent partner to evil antagonist But it really has been the antagonist all along, and more fool me for ever thinking otherwise

Good call yesterday with @Keir_Starmer. We discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s actions are putting global economic stability at risk. We will work with our partners to ensure freedom of navigation can resume as soon as possible. We also discussed the upcoming EU-UK Summit. A key moment to deliver on last year’s commitments and further strengthen our partnership.

Thank you @YvetteCooperMP for convening a call of over 40 countries on the Strait of Hormuz. This waterway is a global public good. Iran cannot be allowed to charge countries a bounty to let ships pass. International law doesn’t recognise pay-to-pass schemes. Today, we looked at diplomatic, economic, and security measures to restore safe passage, alongside working with the shipping industry. The EU’s Aspides naval mission has already assisted 1,700 ships in the Red Sea and must be scaled up. We cannot afford to lose another critical trade route. We support work by the UN on humanitarian corridors in the Strait to get food and fertilisers out. The EU has tools to track and facilitate transit that could help with that.

Morally I have a severe problem with this. I don’t think we are the “good guys” anymore. We’ve gone full rogue. The events I’m watching are things that I never thought I’d see us ever do to anyone. It’s really disturbing

"Back to the Stone age?" Most Europeans and Americans know very little about Iran. Its modern history (in most cases narrated by its enemies) of course dominates most of the narratives about this incredible country and its people. Some things might surprise you, the Achaemenid Empire 550–330 BC founded by Cyrus the Great, was one of the largest empires in human history, its known for its ultra efficient road system and postal service. Then theres Zoroastrianism, one of the earliest "monotheistic" religions, it emerged in Iran around the 6th century BC, influencing global religious thought. The unstopable Arab and Muslim conquest in the 7th century, changed everything and ended the Sasanian Empire, spreading Islam and shaping Iran’s modern cultural identity. The Safavid Dynasty 1501–1736 established Shia Islam as the state religion, largely setting Iran apart in the wider Muslim world. Then comes the more widely know period of modern history, starting in 1979 with the "Islamic Revolution" which overthrew the Pahlavi monarchy (the Shah, you'll be familiar with his sons recent re emergence), creating the Islamic Republic and redefining Iran’s global image and political stance. Despite these turmultous changes, Persian contributions shine in science, with people like polymath Al-Biruni (973–1048) measuring the Earth’s circumference with stunning accuracy, and Omar Khayyam's work in advanced algebra and astronomy. Then theres Persian literature, with poets like Rumi and Hafez, whose beautiful works remain a global treasure, blending mysticism and philosophy. Iran is a great country renowned for its warm and hospitable people. It's not just another far off place on a map, its always been a regional powerhouse and will always be part of the discussion politically and economically. It seems Iran is yet again at the centre of the world's gaze, don't forget that this ancient culture and its people's have weathered many many storms in the past, and it would in my view, be very unwise to underestimate their resolve, regardless of your political views.

I've long thought and continue to think that the single dumbest group of people are those who believe that the US Govt fights wars to free the oppressed peoples of the world. The slightest knowledge of US history shows it far more often imposes dictatorships than uproots them.

I had a call with President of Iran, @drpezeshkian. We discussed the situation in Iran and the Middle East. A ceasefire and a diplomatic solution are urgently needed. I emphasized the need to end the strikes on neighbouring countries and restore freedom of navigation in the Strait Hormuz. Despite the disagreements, it is important to maintain dialogue.
