April 21, 2025 was my last day as U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine. I was the first female Ambassador to serve in a war zone and I am proud of our work to fight back against Russia's aggression and protect democracy. But when Trump kept appeasing Putin, I had to resign and speak out.

STUBB: I think, at the end of the day, United States will find themselves in quite a lonely place. I'm most pro-American president in Europe. I'm avid transatlanticist. I want relationship to work. But I also fully realize that, with certain patterns of behavior, there's going to be a feeling of, "Okay, if you treat me like that, I don't feel very good about it." We can see that with European states, Gulf states and many others. I hope that it's in interest of United States to have close friends and allies, if it wants to continue to be one of the world's hegemons.

I’m not sure exactly what "moral issues" JD Vance believes the Pope should keep himself to; exactly what specific lane he’s suggesting he stay in, but the Vice President seems to believe there’s a whole lot that doesn’t make the cut. To Vance: The intentional bombing of school children isn’t a moral issue. Fully partnering in a genocide isn’t a moral issue. Destroying one of the world’s oldest cultures to distract from a single serial predator’s sexual crimes isn’t a moral issue. APPLEBAUM: Trump administration wants to do business with Russia, and war in Ukraine is an obstacle. They treat it like trivial problem that could be solved if Zelenskyy would just step aside. It’s profound arrogance, ignorance, and hubris all wrapped into one. This is a really big war. It’s a war about European civilization, the same civilization they claim to care about. It’s about sovereignty. Do Ukrainians not deserve sovereignty? This is illustrative of the deep shallowness of Trump administration and their inability to spend even five minutes trying to understand what these conflicts around the world are actually about.
