I recently asked Jewish students at a leading UK university if they saw a future for themselves here. Not one said yes. Today Hatzolah ambulances, whose sole purpose is to save life - ANY life - are burned in London. A country where Jews no longer feel they have a future is already in crisis.

We are absolutely heartbroken that this is how low Britain has sunk. This horrific act truly plumbs new depths. Hatzola is a volunteer-run ambulance service run by the Jewish community but catering to everyone, Jews and non-Jews alike, working with the NHS to save lives as fast as possible. They provide outstanding medical care at lightning speed every hour of every day, and fundraise to buy ambulances and equipment. They are truly a shining example of the Jewish community coming together to help everyone in the most fundamental of ways by giving the gift of life. Burning their ambulances in an attempt to put them out of action is a truly repulsive act of antisemitic hatred in a Britain where Jews now have to keep everything from schools to synagogues under constant guard. Our society has become infested with the sickness of antisemitism. In this case it is not only about catching the perpetrators and restoring the ambulances, but about politicians accepting that by tolerating everything from hate marches to hate preachers, they have created this sickening mess, and time has run out for them to act. The law must change, fast, but so must society. The people spewing obsessive conspiracy theories about Jews, Zionists and Israelis are not social justice warriors, they are hateful bigots who are feeding this madness and must be stood up to and told as much by ordinary decent people.

The deeply shocking thing, Prime Minister, is that it’s not deeply shocking.

As we mourn the dead at Bondi Beach we should remember that these blameless people have been killed just because of who they are. It is a long time since Jewish people faced this kind of horror. Antisemitism is a light sleeper.

BREAKING: Dan Elkayam, a young French Jewish man, has been confirmed killed in the shooting at the Chanukah party in Bondi Beach. May his memory forever be a blessing.

CST condemns the appalling attack that appears to have targeted a Chanukah celebration on Bondi Beach in Australia. Chanukah is a Jewish festival that celebrates light and religious freedom and it is abhorrent that such violence was directed at a moment of communal joy. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and the Australian Jewish community at this awful time. CST will continue to work closely with police, government and community partners to protect Jewish life in this country, including discussions this morning to increase security and policing for Chanukah events in the UK over the next eight days.

Absolutely heartbreaking news is emerging of an unspeakable atrocity on Bondi Beach in Sydney, where a Chanukah event was taking place. As details become clearer, please join me in praying for everyone affected by this heinous act.

This was a celebration for the Jewish festival of Chanukah - with all things that attract young families. Praying for all those affected - sending love and light. So grateful to be part of such a special community, more so than ever before. Chazak.
