The EU gets a better trade deal with Australia than Britain did. Of course, the EU negotiates with the clout and leverage of being the world’s largest market. It gets better deals for its members than they’d get negotiating separately. Britain now misses out on that.

De Nederlandse regering zal gedwongen worden de visionaire leegte waarmee men nu denkt de wereldproblematiek weg te wensen te vervangen door een strategie omtrent het eigen gas en bijbehorende energie onafhankelijkheid. De wal keert het schip wel, al had ik liever gezien dat er iemand in de stuurhut zat en we mijlenver van de kust waren gebleven.

After 40 years here I’m leaving. This was on my doorstep in Golders Green. My wife and children have already left. I have always believed in the European civilisation and I have been proud having been born as a European. My wife’s Opa was a proud German who got out by the skin of his teeth in 1939. I’m not going to make the same mistake.

@JanFredebeul I’ve been hearing pro EU folk predict/promise/beg for this for 20 years. A ‘united’ Europe has made us weaker and every time ‘closer union’ is used as a fix things get worse.

Fucking hell, we need to move away from gas and fossil fuels. Just electrify the fucking system; invest in nuclear, solar and wind. From one side we have Russia blackmailing the EU with energy, then we have Middle East dependence, now we have the US blackmailing the EU.

I know it has been over two decades since Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij went bankrupt due to lack of orders, but I consider it a supreme act of national self-sabotage that the Dutch allowed their once exceptional submarine building capability be lost.

EU-ministers staan volgens NOS-correspondent Kysia Hekster niet te springen om de Straat van Hormuz te verdedigen. “Het is niet hun oorlog.”
Dat is een interessante redenering.
Want een aanzienlijk deel van de olie waar Europa op draait passeert precies die zeestraat. Jarenlang was het vooral de Amerikaanse marine die die route beveiligde.
Maar wanneer het over Oekraïne gaat, spreken dezelfde Europese leiders wél over “onze oorlog”.
