What the #brain still has left to teach us 🧠 At the Stowers Institute, scientists are exploring some of biology’s toughest questions: How do memories last? What sparks neurodegenerative disease? How is the brain built in the first place? This #BrainAwarenessWeek, go inside the #research shaping our understanding of the brain—from #memory to disease to #development. 🔗 Read more: bit.ly/4rMiaFb @dana_fdn @Brain_Facts_org @SfNtweets

Did you know the human brain contains about 86 billion neurons constantly communicating through trillions of connections? 🧠 Institute scientists are uncovering how these connections form memories, and how similar biological processes may contribute to diseases like #Alzheimers and #Parkinsons. #Research on proteins called amyloids is revealing something surprising: some amyloids may actually play a healthy role in long-term memory formation. This #BrainAwarenessWeek, explore how Stowers #science is advancing our understanding of the brain: bit.ly/4a8b1XE @dana_fdn @Brain_Facts_org @SfNtweets

🧠 #BrainAwarenessWeek How does #aging influence inflammation in the #brain and body? #Research from the @HalfmannLab revealed that certain immune proteins act as stored energy “batteries,” enabling cells to rapidly respond to pathogens. 🪫 While this system protects us early in life, it can also trigger inflammation later in life, contributing to diseases such as #Alzheimers. Understanding this biological trade-off could help scientists identify new strategies to reduce harmful inflammation associated with aging. @dana_fdn @SfNtweets @Brain_Facts_org 🔗 Read more: bit.ly/4pm9Zjf
