The single most important thing happening in our country now, and the next most important thing is so far down the scale that it’s nearly invisible, is the consolidation of the various right wing fringe factions under a populist demagogue using an established party as a beard.

Add so ends any respect I had left. You don’t sell out your entire country, the 40 million people in it and your “liberal values” to join the far right populist trying to eat us from within. We’re lost. apple.news/A4xe-6hXISUeC6…

"When Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre spoke in Halifax on Sunday, he too didn’t mention SaltWire, the workers, the loss to communities, or the importance of reporting to democracy. Instead, he attacked what’s left of the news media. 'An apple a day keeps the woke media away,' joked Poilievre. Later, he envisioned U-Hauls pulling up 'at what used to be the CBC headquarters,' a reference to his vow to defund the CBC, which in most of rural Atlantic Canada provides the only reporting that isn’t provided by SaltWire."

Fun fact @PnPCBC @CBCNews USED to actually do this, but haven't since about 2010. It's not a novel or 'new'. I don't know what f*cking' genius told the CBC that they needed to add some pizazz to political coverage, but that's the moment it happened. #cdnpoli

Another strong canvass in #Carleton today. Lots of support from residents at the door, and even had a driver pull over just to wish me well. There’s a long way to go before an election, but with each passing day, more people believe we can defeat Pierre Poilievre in Carleton. #CarletonDeservesBetter #TogetherWeCan

Canada isn't the same country going forward without a price on carbon. Poilievre's axe the tax campaign is foreign investment suicide.

Worst moment in politics today: Dropping by QP to hear Poilievre attack carbon pricing & mislead Canadians while he has absolutely no plan to tackle climate change or build a cleaner future that grows the economy & creates good jobs. Meanwhile 2023 was the hottest year on record.

If you want to understand the fight over Trump's bloodbath talk, ask someone who watched Hockey Night in Canada for years; the speaking style may sound familiar. But beyond that, of course, it’s who he is, and he hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt. thestar.com/news/world/why…

Wait a minute the Liberals didn't create the narrative here IF we are going to have to entertain weeks & weeks of news coverage entertaining every bimbo who suggests rising inflation is Trudeau's fault....you are going to have to accept that when it falls, it's also his #cdnpoli

The polarization of our politics is no myth. While the federal Liberal Party has shifted left to some extent, today’s Conservatives are unrecognizable from the Progressive Conservatives of the 20th century. Many present-day Conservatives — far too many in fact, wear this with a badge of honour. They claim Red Toryism was akin to a “squishy” ideology that stood for nothing. I couldn’t disagree more. My formative years were marked by learning about Canadian politics and gov’t from my late maternal grandparents. They were life-long “Progressive Conservatives”: they stood for free markets, the monarchy, robust public health care and education systems, a healthy social safety net, respect for tradition, an independent foreign policy and a deep love for a Canada that welcomed newcomers. As a kid, I thought these values embodied Canadian conservatism. To me, they were synonymous with Canadian values. And in the 1990s, they still were for the most part. I myself was convinced I was a conservative until my late teens. I know my late grandparents would be horrified at today’s iteration of the Conservative Party. It would be unrecognizable to them because they believed gov’t could and should play an important role in the lives of Canadians. Canada is a very different place today when compared to my grandparents’ heyday. Regardless of the magnitude of change we’ve withstood, I regret that there is no longer a home for the sensible, reasoned conservatism my grandparents clung to. #cdnpoli

Literally every dollar of Canada’s carbon pricing system is returned to the jurisdiction in which it is raised. There is no “shifting wealth from the West to the East”. But I wouldn’t expect you to get pesky details like that right. #cdnpoli
@

If Ottawa truly cared about the environment, and Canada, it would advocate for an international cap-and-trade system, not a carbon tax policy. All we have is an institutionalized cash grab, shifting wealth from the West to the East, from the rich to the poor. That's it.

Mr. Gordon is too kind. Focussing on either to the exclusion of the other is politically cynical and intellectually dishonest. The tax corrects the price to reflect true cost at the point of purchase; the rebate corrects or lowers the overall economic impact.

Serious question what IS the CPC policy on Israel/Palestine? Foreign Affairs critic Michael Chong says it's the same as the LPC, a two-state solution requiring negotiation recognizing it's a long-term process. But that's not what others in the party say, so what is it #cdnpoli

I pretty vehemently disagree with Anthony Housefather’s interpretation of last night’s motion being a reward to Hamas but there is something deeply unsettling about the idea that a Jewish MP should put Israel/Palestine above all else and leave a government he otherwise supports

1/3. The thing Trump did in Dayton – celebrating his fascist movement's dubious "martyrs" – is exactly what Goebbels and Hitler did between the Nazis' failed coup and their seizure of power. Their song was called the Horst Wessel Song.

There’s some commentary on here saying we should disregard Trump’s “bloodbath” remarks last night because he was talking about potential harms to the auto industry. That is misguided. 1/x

@SeanFraserMP I’ve worked as a realtor before either of you were housing ministers and housing affordability has become exponentially worse under Trudeau. The numbers don’t lie. More homes being built for rent than for homeowners. The Canadian dream is dead.
