A major reason a large segment thinks that Israel killed Charlie and has attempted to kill Trump multiple times is because it's psychologically a lot easier pill to swallow than the idea that the Left is extremely violent and lives right next door to you.
You know that you are not a significant figure and that a foreign government on the other side of the planet doesn't really care about you one way or the other. You are an accountant or an HVAC guy. You are well aware that the Mossad isn't going to kill you.
But the idea that guy who lives down the street who talks about "empathy" and "kindness" and "healthcare for everyone" would put a bullet in your head over the Trump sign in your yard is far more terrifying.
I have been very critical of America's relationship to Israel, but the obsession over it by many is actually a defense mechanism that allows you to pretend the threat to your way of life and your life itself isn't right in front of you at all times.
"No, there isn't a radical left all around us who want us dead. All those posts celebrating Charlie's death were just, uh, Israeli bots. This is all just a distraction from the Epstein Files. We actually can work with the Left to oppose Israel."
This is the kind of stuff Russian peasants would say about the Bolsheviks in late 1916.
