For the past several days my timeline has been full of people arguing with Japanese people about piracy. Don't really get it. If you wanna pirate, do it, why do you need to convince some Japanese guy with facts and logic that it's okay?

Piracy removes that signal. You’re artificially limiting impact to only current sales. Markets aren’t static

@Rinne_yt They made it abundantly clear that overseas civilians were never intended to be customers, and that their products should remain native to them, therefore my money was never a factor and my piracy now harmless. Their logic, not mine, but it's logic I'll gladly accept.

At that point the concept of licensing, pricing, or regional distribution stops functioning entirely.

Calling it ‘gatekeeping’ doesn’t change the fact that it’s their work to license. If the market isn’t sustainable, piracy doesn’t solve that.

There were TV channels here who tried to be anime dominant TV channels so they could spread the culture, couldn't agree with any the Japanese publishers and bankrupt in a year. It's about Japanese publishers trying to gatekeep the works
