@Monkeyiobe @kezia_noble Piffle. Renewables are far more expensive overall (intermittency and construction/refitting). Allowing drilling, even if sold at world price (which gas isn't anyhow!), increases short term supply security and brings in enormous tax revenues from any international sales.

They say: “It’s cheaper to import oil than to drill.” Short term, maybe. Long term? Risky. The North Sea means more jobs, and gives the United Kingdom control, revenue, and protection from shocks 🇬🇧 Cheap isn’t always smart.

@_HenryBolton Isn't that what NATO is for? The problem is that the US is now a rogue nation that is not to be relied upon. NATO has to respond to this in all sorts of ways but that will not happen overnight.

Let me put this very simply. The UK does not have a system to defend its cities from ballistic missile attack. We rely on the United States under a NATO framework. That is the reality.

The Royal Navy has officially run out of ships. I have been raising this issue for weeks. Once HMS Dragon was deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean we were always likely to be unable to fulfil our Standing NATO Maritime Group One commitment next month with HMS Dauntless in Fleet Time Support Period. Now it’s official. The Germans have had to bail us out. I asked the Defence Secretary on 9th March in the chamber if he could guarantee that we will be able to fulfil our commitment to NATO in providing the flagship role, and whether he could guarantee that it would be provided by a British ship? He lied, telling me that “we will always fulfil our NATO commitments”. It doesn’t look like it now does it.

It applies to all Commonwealth countries. The Abbey is sometimes referred to as the Commonwealth Church.
