Finally got my personal copy of the #dissertation today. Feels great to bring this chapter to a close and looking forward to what’s next to come academically after my defense on Friday!

Handed in my #dissertation on Making #Revenge Great Again. Looking forward to the defense in March and the comments I’ll get. I‘m really excited for my next steps and some more explorations into Gongyang #Confucianism #公羊學 and #ChinesePhilosophy

@ccgg31 Not yet - the books are all uncatalogued, so that’s the first thing I am doing right now. By my current estimate, we should have all works of the core collection listed in about 3-4 months.

I started a new position working on a collection of mainly pre-modern Chinese books once owned by Jozef Mullie at KU Leuven Libraries, making these works available to scholars. Over the coming months, I'll be posting some of the fascinating texts and illustrations I come across.

After retiring, Mullie continued his research at the library of KU Leuven. He ultimately left thousands of Chinese volumes, some of which date to the early 1700s. These books offer much insight into the research of missionaries in/on China and early Belgian #Sinology. #Chinabooks

It seems that my work is at this point influential enough for me to be on the editorial board of a predatory journal. My paper on "Kang Youwei's J(sic)(sic) Daxue zhu xu (sic)(sic)(sic)(sic)" seems very influential... #Academia #PredatoryJournals

I think at this point predatory journals have really given up... They were inspired by the rigorous research in my paper "Title." Sounds a bit fishy. #Academia

One of my favorite things about teaching the introduction to linguistic anthropology class is that I can linger over olfactory ideophones, examples of linguistic diversity and some of the work done by UT Austin PhDs (Susan Smythe Kung and Simeon Floyd)

I’m an illustrator with aphantasia. My works usually come from ideas based only on texts, and I also can’t imagine how my works are gonna be like in the end.

"I'm a doctor in Linguistics" "my friend is dying" "Don't you find it fascinating that «die», a telic verb, in the progressive means that your friend is on the path to dying but isn't yet dead? Aspect is so cool"

When I review papers about a Chinese variety and there are no tone marks (and preferably also characters), the best score I give is major revision. I was trained to not put tone marks on transliterated words and I don’t understand why. It’s a tone language and it’s 2025.
Gopalakrishnan R@cobbaltt

Why is Mandarin so often not transcribed with tonal diacritics? Just cuz you're writing a syntax paper doesn't mean you should ignore tones in a tonal language...

Attending CLIN35 today in Leuven with my supervisor @j_prokic and the entire team (@aronvandepol, Jiahui Liang)! We are not talking about dialects today though, but about the Sahel project, where we analyse social media data with NLP and image processing~
