Was hoping to respond on my dad's behalf to a couple of letters from local primary school kids, asking about his career. Wanted to put a couple of his toons in for them. Opened the drawer and this lay on top. Hit me quite hard... 1/2

Been overseas and have only just heard the superb cartoonist @tonyhusband1 sadly died a few days ago. In 1986 I sent some cartoons to the letters page of Oink!; he replied suggesting I contribute for real. Blew my mind. I was 15. My 1st job. I’ll always be grateful. RIP.

@charltonbrooker @tonyhusband1 I used to send him cartoons too! I remember all your work really well, Tony was always so encouraging, I never managed to get any work published in Oink! I send about 4-5 strips a week but he did keep one mini strip one day and called me on the phone, such a nice man.

@PaulHusband_ Tony was a pioneer of modern comics and a master of his trade. A true inspiration to me as a young cartoonist, he was very encouraging and always full of advice. I was truly very sad when I heard he had passed. You have my deepest condolences 💐

I can't tell you all how much your comments have meant to me. I must have been an extremely strange sight in the train home as I attempted to hold back tears when reading you replies. Some said my dad gave the world a gift. He did. He also gave the people he loved everything. 1/2

@lewstringer This is such terrible news! Such a lovely man, I still have all of rejection his letters he wrote me and have found memories of the phone call he made to me in the late 80’s with words of encouragement. RIP Tony, such a talented cartoonist you will be sorely missed.

I'm very sorry to hear that Tony Husband passed away yesterday. One of the contributing editors of Oink! comic in the 1980s, a supremely funny cartoonist for Private Eye and other magazines, and a nice guy too. My condolences to his family and many friends.
